    Pros

Good comapny to work for outside of the city limits. Interesting science and competitive compensation.

    Cons

No major cons. Their salaries seem to be a little lower than what you would find in the city. But it's a fair trade off if you don't want to commute.

    Cons

Affiliated 3rd party contractors aren't always efficient.

    Pros

Excellent culture where everyone was engaged to help move the business forward. No "that's not my job mentality". We all shared a common vision to succeed.

    Cons

Too bad big Pharma stepped in.

    Pros

Some good people still left. Generous vacation policy

    Cons

Difficult to get things done due to Sanofi's siloed approach and many, many steps and groups involved in process. Functions are being grouped in one location at any of the multiple Boston Metrowest locations breaking apart project teams. Good people continue to leave due to frustrations with Sanofi bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Genzyme needs to be able to be more independent from Sanofi processes. The legacy of success cannot be repeated using policies and procedures put in place to run enormous programs in area such as diabetes.

    Pros

Nice culture, people caring for people and working together for the benefit of the patient. Good place to work with generous benefits

    Cons

Sold to Sanofi and treated more as a number rather that a person. Internal relationships are good but corporate rules.

    Advice to Management

None really, management has always been good to me. Respectable and understanding. Everyone is here for the patient. Do your job and do it well and you'll have no problems.

I have been working at Genzyme full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice patient focused culture, which is rare in pharma. Great benefits (401k, Insurance, Tuition Reimbursement).

    Cons

(Manufacturing Side Review) Poor talent focus, hierarchical filtering of communication, lack of manufacturing vision. Terrible bureaucracy prevents simplest improvements at the manufacturing operations level

    Advice to Management

Focus on cutting the barriers to open communication. So many employees can't even openly discuss issues because it needs to be "processed" up the management chain. It's not conducive to continuous improvement of operations or culture.

I have been working at Genzyme full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Ample parking. Great science. A place to pick up skills that could serve you better elsewhere.

    Cons

Absolutely stifling bureaucracy. Reorg after reorg. Patronizing and arrogant leadership without trust in the organizations they manage. A lack of clear leadership vision. Next to no US R&D autonomy makes everything absurdly slow, France calls the shots. Politics galore. Silo city. Laughable 1% salary increases for all year after year. Disillusioned and highly frustrated employees, many of whom are now looking for an exit. Very, very sad to see this happen to what was once a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Get your heads out of the sand. Thin out the "senior leadership" ranks and the burdens they generate for the rest of us to try to validate their own existence. Support your people. Facilitate progress rather than stifle it. Come on!

I worked at Genzyme full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of great people work hard at this company to help pull it forward

    Cons

Arrogant ego driven management, information is used as currency, out of date systems and processes, politics run the show.

    Advice to Management

Check your ego at the door and do what is best for the company and not your personal interests. If an entire team complains about a manager, don't transfer them to another department. Investigate and ensure that other people aren't being set up for failure and abuse by demoting/firing that person. Genzyme allows their employees to be harassed and abused by rogue managers just because they don't want to look bad by demoting them. Also PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES MARKET VALUE. Underpaying your employees and having your managers micromanage them isn't a recipe for long term success. I got a 20k raise when I left that place for a lateral move. You guys really need to look at what you pay your employees and start doing right by them. Now that Sanofi bought you, you should be more European in the pay and benefit system you give your employees. Instead you look for every excuse not to pay your employees. Do right by them and they will do right by you.
