Good company, but small and subject to market changes.

    Trainer (Former Employee) Seattle, WA

    ProsYearly bonuses on most years.

ConsAs a support staff there isn't much room for growth

Advice to Senior ManagementMore transparency with employees.

Laid back, yet professional. Great, stable place for employment!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

Pros-Friendly place to work because peer staff make it so!
    -Great benefits for family.
-At the time of writing this review, the executive management is probably its strongest that I have seen it in years.
-The company isn't cheap on everything, but rather well off and is also well respected by their competition.
-The bitter staff (as they happen to make their way into any company) don't seem to want to stick around too long.

Cons-Both Redmond and Seattle office locations make getting to work difficult unless one lives in their proximity. (However, the commute to other remote offices isn't as big of an issue).
-Some management is too grand-fathered in their positions, but could use some shaking up now and then to make sure they are still well-suited for the company.

Advice to Senior Management-Reward current staff more by promoting within first if possible, versus bringing in outside candidates.
-Work on molding all of the various offices together to function more as a collective unit versus the remote offices that they are.
-Need a better review system of managers by their direct reports.

    Fantastic Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAmazing team. Everyone is very helpful.
You learn from well trained managers.
    Good work/life balance.
Really good benefits, especially if you have a family.
    Room for growth and advancement.

ConsLike any company there are some people that can be harder to work with than others.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

A huge letdown...work environment not "as advertised"

Support Staff (Former Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsThe majority of the support staff are great people. They are true professionals and wonderful to work with.

ConsUpper management caters only to their "favorites", while other, exceptional workers go unnoticed and get abused to the point of quitting.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your employees, they are the ones driving your business! You have lost some really talented professionals by being too top heavy, short sighted, and partisan in your treatment of support staff.

A few admirable traits but generally not a great place to work

    Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsSomewhat flexible work schedule if you want it. Opportunities to work from home when you need to.

ConsExperienced scientists and engineers are often forced to complete tasks several levels below them because senior management does not hire enough staff. Company puts profit before its people. Compensations is lower that all firms I have worked for in the past.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more staff. Make the firm a better place to work. Instill pride and loyalty in your employees.

    Good place to work

    Associate (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsCompany gives you flexibility in both work approaches and work schedule. Freedom to pursue opportunities in the market and choose your own career path.

ConsThe organizations is pretty compartmentalized between offices and business units. Not a lot of collaboration across the organization. There are also quite a few big egos in the company that can be hard to work with.

Management is top heavy and totally disconnected from the realities of the staff

Staff Geologist (Former Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsGreat benefits and great people to work with. Unfortunately, a few bad apples have ruined the place.

ConsManagement is extraordinarily top heavy. The number of technical staff is minor compared to management. Staff typically work very long hours and do way more work than they should and don't get any constructive feedback from management.

The environmental group is plagued with political infighting amongst the staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more staff people. Spread the work load around, fairly. Give equal opportunities to all field staff, instead of allowing particular staff to work only in the office and others only in the field.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
