I have been working at Georgetown University Hospital full-time

    Pros

Compensation and benefits, especially shift differentials, are among the best in D.C. Patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction are high priorities. There is an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork evident among all employee categories. Further education is encouraged and tuition reimbursement is generous. Plans for future growth are ambitious and make me feel excited to pursue a long-term career here.

    Cons

Yes, the hospital is old, but certainly not the worst in the city. And parking can be a hassle. However, facilities are adequate and there are plans in the works for new hospital facilities. (Can't wait for this!)

    Pros

Collaborative environment, helpful mentors and wonderful staff. Georgetown University Hospital was a wonderful place to start my career due to the engaged staff and team approach.

    Cons

The work that I performed was quite mundane, but I did connect with wonderful staff who were intelligent mentors. Although the work was tedious, the people at Georgetown University Hospital are its greatest asset.

    Pros

Georgetown was a professional and collaborative experience.

    Cons

Nursing always has some cons, but the scheduling, peer support, and professionalism amongst all health team members made working at Georgetown by far my favorite nursing job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My head nurse ran an organized, happy floor. Our schedule allowed for everything to get done well in each shift. People were always willing to help others.

I have been working at Georgetown University Hospital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Best doctors in the world Most dedicated nurses and support staff. Provides excellent patient care. Magnet Nurse facility.

    Cons

Still needs to work on racial biases and discrimination within certain departments. Inadequate parking for patients and staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Losing some great doctors, nurses and other staff by leaning on this new corporate business model and micromanagement style. Ruling by fear and separatism will produce immediate results, but will not sustain for longevity of success.

I worked at Georgetown University Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The work environment was wonderful. I was like one big family. The entire organization was like a family. There were so many opportunities available to the employees.

    Cons

The only challenge I was personally faced with was my commute. At the time of my employment the University had a commuter van in place for commuters from my area. I would hope that is still available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management was very caring and helpful. I feel like when they asked a question of you; they really listen to what you have to say. The organization is structure help make every available opportunity accessible to you to complete your responsibilities.
