I have been working at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Located downtown next to MARTA, competitive salary

    Cons

Awful benefits, significant personnel turnover, lack of leadership, constant personnel reorganization, inconsistent work resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership is unaware of what Public Health is, what employees do and what is required to accomplish goals and deliverables, and it is an unstable working environment. There is little incentive for quality employees to stay here long-term.

    Pros

The ability to positively impact and improve the health and wellbeing of GA residents.

    Cons

Poor leadership, lack of transparency, low salaries with no pay increases for last 7 years. Limited opportunity for internal advancement. No professional development opportunities, unless you are in management or leadership...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees. Allow alternate work schedules including telework.

I was not a "good fit" after 11 months of frustration.

I worked at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Central location in downtown, with easy access to public transit. Flexible work scheduling is available. Good benefits package, although the health care plan premiums are high for the average salaries. I learned that workplaces with high turnover rates are not good places to work in.

    Cons

The office culture is antagonistic. Thanks to a re-organization (purge & rehire) a couple of years ago, everyone is either a new recruit or a burned-out veteran. Within my short tenure of 11 months, there were 4 resignations (from a staff of 9 employees) in my section of the department. Upper management seems to be indifferent to the low morale of its lower level subordinates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please address the reasons for your high turnover rate. Please stop hiring people without full disclosure on the status of the workload left behind by the previous employee that held the position. No one likes to be misled about expectations and then penalized when those expectations are not met.

    In a word-don't!

I worked at Georgia Department of Public Health

    Pros

Paid holidays and security cameras watching your every move. Management is never around and evaluations do not matter.

    Cons

DRAMA drama drama. Eisenhower location thrives on drama and poor customer service skills clinic wide.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come to work for a change vs depending on bias people's opinions. Quit sitting at your desk and get out more. Then you won't be so surprised with employee turnover and other issues.

I have been working at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are coming from the outside such as private sector you will get paid a whole lot more than an employee who is already in the organization doing the job will only get a 10% percent raise.

    Cons

Management will write you up for every little thing, hold you to your evaluation literally! Management does not allow employees to make sound decisions especially if the employee has been there for year, have knowledge and understanding of job situations that arise. If you increase your education such as a Masters degree, you do not get any kind of increase. Management does not appreciate your hard work such as staying late.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to include employees on things discussed in management meetings so everyone can be on the same page as far as the mission, value and goals of the organization. Management needs to treat employees with respect.

    Pros

Good opportunity for college graduates to gain experience

    Cons

    Not a place to stay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the people who are actually doing the work happy and stop promoting friends and family. Listen to complaints and do something to resolve the issue(s). Ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away.
