My experience at GHSU has been rewarding and inspiring.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Augusta, GA

ProsGeorgia Health Science University Health System is amidst change and growth. Working in this type of an environment is very conducive to professional and personal growth. It is also a great opportunity for those who are motivated to leave their own mark on the healthcare industry.

ConsSome of the downsides of working at Georgia Health Science University University Health System is that is it is easy to get lost in such a large organization. One must be assertive and make an effort to be part of the great advances taking place. Also, this type of an environment is a very competitive environment in which to seek advancement.

Good compensation packages, but limited upward mobility

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsExcellent compensation packages, especially if you take advantage of the maximum 401K
    Fairly easy lateral movement

ConsMonumental challenges with communication within the institution
Trending toward greater usage of consultants from outside the institution to develop a miraculous cure for the ingrained political and institutional problems which need to be addressed from the inside out
VERY limited potential for upward mobility within the institution. They tend to hire from the outside for higher level positions from the manager to VP level. Been with the institution 15 years and less than 50% of the VP level positions have been refilled from within the current ranks for the areas I have been involved in. Recently, as an illustration, solidly capable and proven managers have been over-passed for jobs which were eventually given to outside candidates. It is obvious that "we do not take care of our own."

    – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

People here are nice and friendly to new comer.

ConsAugusta is a small town without so much entertainment to reach.

Lack of balance between life and work.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is still big room for improvement.

Not good place to do science.

    Research Assistant (Current Employee)

ProsIt's in a small city, which is beautiful. Most labs don't have so much pressure, people can enjoy life. But, my lab is different. So, everything is dependent on your boss.

ConsSmall place, small college, no so much opportunities. The general level of people working here is not very high. I don't think it's a good place to do science. If you are looking for a postdoc position, don't come.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay more attention to foreign science works.
