Pros
Well known, well respected corporation within pulp & paper companies
Cons
Very resistant to change. Managed a non-union mill with a union mentality.
Pros
Very Good Benefit package
Freindly atmosphere
Safety of employees is a MAJOR Priority
Job Security
Cons
Pay raises are few and far between, 3-5 years on average.
Pay scales are lower than what I've seen in similar industries.
Very inconsistent, and constantly changing business plan.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay people for what they do and reward them for success. Get a plan and stick with it.
Pros
good benifits, fair pay, steady work, safety
Cons
heat, cold, noise, paper work for every job
Advice to Senior Management
Have employees rate performance of management to better understand and meet the goals of its employees and how they feel they are being treated
Pros
Great learning experience, co-workers are friendly and enjoyable to work around, given responsibility right off the bat. Very laid back place to work, but when time is critical can be very stressful environment, some managers tend to micro-manage while others fail to manage at all.
Cons
They have great principles but do not follow, this is improving but very slowly. Very high turnover rate at GP because other companies are willing to compensate for talent. GP claims to want to find and retain the best talent but fails to compensate those with talent. To get a raise you must threaten to leave, but by that time its to late anyways, your going to leave anyways.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't want till an employee threatens to leave before compensating, actively pursue retaining the top talent through monetary means. An extra $10,0000/yr is a drop in the bucket of what a talented individual will earn the company.
Pros
Georgia Pacific LLC has a culture of integrity at all levels. Employees are held accountable for their actions without regard for position or connections. Fair treatment is the cornerstone of what to expect.
Cons
Profit is the main ingredient for success at Georgia Pacific LLC. The balance of cost vs. quality may tend toward cost, though great emphasis is placed on finding the balance.
Pros
The company has several plants and you can move from one to another depending on open positions. Most are in the south and are heavy industrial paper plants.
Cons
GP will not increase you salary each year. You need to advance into a new job to increase your salary. GP will give a bonus if the company and your site did well. Some years you will get up to a 5% bonus but the norm was 1-3%.
Pros
Superior management with outstanding work experience is available to assist you in your career development.
Cons
If you work in a cost center your accomplishments are difficult to justify.
Pros
There are a lot of great people who work for the company. Many of them have worked for the company for decades, and have a lot of great knowledge and experience. They truly want to do the right thing and work towards making the company better, but senior management routinely gets in the way. Ability to maintain a good work life balance was good.
Cons
I have never heard so many complaints about compensation as I have while working for Georgia Pacific. Many hard working people who are truly adding value to the organization go years without a raise. For those who are able to garner a raise, it takes months and months with many challenges to get approvals. Bonuses are very hard to come by. (I have not seen one in years.) Medical benefits are meager. The implementation of the MBM tenets is sadly derailed. The talk and the actions are regularly completely opposite of each other. I would not be surprised if they see an exodus of employees as the economy improves. Also be prepared to be routinely bombarded with the Koch libertarian political perspective.
Advice to Senior Management
Live up to the philosophy you are trying to implement.
Pros
Facility is good. Folks are hard working
Cons
Dead End job feeling prevails. Lacks personal touch.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on Career advancement for employees
Pros
Steady work, always had a paycheck. Say the right thing to the right person and get promoted regardless of skill level. Hourly positions still pay and have good benefits. Good to have a job in this economy.
Cons
They have a good philosophy, but no one including the Kock brothers practice it. No one will give a straight answer for fear of being held accountable to it, compensation, benefits, promotional opportunities are a joke, no raise in three years, none on the horizon, no bonuses as promised, you can get better medical benefits on social security or state assistance. Pick and use any mbm principles they think will serve their immediate needs, disregard the rest. Talk safety and accountability, but haven't a clue what that means.
Advice to Senior Management
Why not learn mbm and practice it, even if the creators of it don't. You will have a major talent defection as soon as jobs become available if you don't start paying real wages to salaried.
