Engineer (Former Employee)

I worked at Georgia Power as an intern for less than a year

ProsGood culture. Safety is a top priority. Everyone is friendly and it had a family atmosphere. Good pay for the power industry.

ConsPay was a little low compared to other industries.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay engineers better.

Been here long enough to clearly see the glass ceiling.

Electrician (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Georgia Power full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGood pay for hourly employees with good benifit package such as insurance. Union covered for most workers so raises are under contract.

ConsCompany has repeatedly treated union covered employees with little respect. Company has no progression program unless you are an engineer.

Loved my experience!

Intern (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Georgia Power as an intern for less than a year

ProsI had a great boss and worked with a great team. They were all very involved at developing me in the semester that I worked with them. They let me tag along to all meetings with big clients, gave me pointers for how to be successful in the workforce and taught me so much. I did none of the stereotypical "get coffee, etc" type of intern tasks. I updated websites, helped clients and assisted in making powerpoints. My boss was wonderful with the job/life balance.

ConsThe only con was that I was away from my co-workers in a different area of the office. As far as the overall company, I hear that it is hard to move up quickly, but that's because everyone loves their job so much that they don't want to retire.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep it up with doing a great job of managing your employees! I loved it there.

Highly rgrettable

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Georgia Power

ProsThe best reason to work for Georgia Power is that working for a public utility company which holds a monopoly in the marketplace always seems like a secure employment option.

ConsGeorgia Power takes full advantage of the state's high unemployment rate and sets unreachable goals, micro-manages to the extreme, uses up the employee in a high stress environment and then terminates the employee because there are always new prospects to take advantage of.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should consider valuing employees as much as the company values stockholders. Managers, as winners of the power lottery at GA Power, are clearly not able to escape the resulting seduction of power, greed, and blood lust that overlooks the humanity of employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
