I have been working at Georgia Power full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great work / life balance. You will have time to time to spend time with family, and the company as a whole buys into this balance.

    Cons

Can sometimes be hard for advancement. Need to have meeting with people way in advance if you are interested in a position in the group. Also, if someone is happy in a department you may be waiting awhile for a position to open up.

I worked at Georgia Power as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

Laid back, informal culture, even in the headquarters office. The company is very invested in its employees and offer all kinds of perks (healthcare, child care, gym, rewards program for living healthy, etc.). It's very easy to move around within the company so you could have multiple jobs/careers all within Georgia Power.

    Cons

Management in some departments is not the best. Since people can change departments so easily, there is a lot of restructuring constantly going on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers need to be more transparent in handling conflicts.

I worked at Georgia Power full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, benefits and all the stupid crap you get at all Fortune 500 companies.

    Cons

Bitter 50 year old middle managers hell bent on making young 20-somethings conform to lifestyle changes that aren't good. If you're young, they will constantly hold you back from succeeding. They fail on personal growth/development and fail on office culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

ENCOURAGE more telecommuting instead of allowing once a month. Minimize the time an employee is needed in the office or create a more stimulating office environment with easy and high speed wi-fi access, an enjoyable break area with ping-pong tables, and cable TV with ALL the sports channels. Yes. All of them. Even the ones in Spanish.
