    Pros

Gerdau offers excellent benefits for recent a college grad. The work environment seems stress free. All of the coworkers, management, and HR are friendly.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons other than the fact that the new hire orientation process seems unorganized.

    Advice to Management

the new hire orientation and introduction needs improvement. It would be nice to give new employees a better understanding of how the benefits work before the official hire date. Especially for employees who recently graduated.

    Pros

Co-workers have great team work skills and a culture of results

    Cons

Cutbacks, salaries stagnate, bonus all but eliminated, older work-force getting pushed out in lieu of younger non-experienced workers for cheaper pay.

    Advice to Management

Company is trying to make changes but bogged down with buracracy and failing sectors of the market and will not

    Pros

Long term, experienced co-workers. Interesting industry sector, interesting processes. Compensation / benefits are middle of the road to low, incentive program was outstanding but has been replaced.

    Cons

The company has lost focus of the steel manufacturing aspect to expend resources on non-value added programs such as; SAP, employing engineering degreed individuals only, micro management of individual locations, injecting text book business school theory / propaganda into the company with no real purpose nor goal. Maintaining a Brazilian business culture rather than assimilating into a North American business culture. Implements drastic business structure changes for the sake of change rather than to improve company operations.

    Advice to Management

Realize you are operating, selling and employing in a North American business model not a Brazilian business model. If the operation is not failing nor under producing, do not implement / inject changes to repair it. Focus all resources on steel manufacturing rather than the latest business management fad to come out of academia. Degreed Engineers are not the only answer to improvement. Corporate level activities are to support the operational activities not the operational location supporting corporate level activities. In simple terms; GLN in operated as if the “Tail is wagging the dog”

    Pros

Good benefits and generally a positive work experience. Allowed to run my own area with mostly occasional supervision. Still employed but very cyclical industry.

    Cons

Some hysteria happens during difficult times. Can be quite demanding now allowing for good work / life balance.

    Pros

Great people to work with. Good work is recognized with fairly common or substantial pay increases.

    Cons

Like most engineering type jobs the cap is achieved rather quickly with no where to go.

    Advice to Management

Maybe read a single management book. Try being a leader and less of a manager.
