I have been working at Getty Trust full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It is a beautiful work environment and many employees are also artists in their personal time, whether writers, filmmakers, painters, quilters etc. People here love art and the Getty is supportive of artistic endeavors. Many of the staff have an alternating off-Friday schedule which is a nice work-life balance perk. Benefits are also quite good compared to other companies as well.

    Cons

Sepulveda is the only way to access the Center so traffic can be frustrating at times. Parking is limited so most staff must park at the bottom of the hill and be shuttled up which adds time to the work day. Also, once you are on campus there are not many dining options since it takes so long to go back down and leave for lunch most people buy food at our cafe or bring their own.

I worked at Getty Trust as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Resources, the ocean view and working with great people.

    Cons

There is little to no room for upward advancement or promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should consider paying their employees more and find other ways besides layoffs to reduce budgets.

I worked at Getty Trust full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice facilities
    Steady pay
    Limited overtime
    Sick pay
    Standard vacation
    Average benefits
Free training and advancement to help you find a better job after!
Some other perks but not really worth while considering how much money the Trust has and how much better it could be.

    Cons

If you started at the Getty back in the early 2000's it was great. Not so much anymore
Very corporately structured for a non-profit
Huge difference in pay from management positions to ground floor entry level.
    Limited advancement
Incompetent people in manager and supervisor positions.
    Micromanagement
    Bureaucracy
Unusual procedures and work policies only seen at Getty.
    Weird culture
    Revolving door workplace

    Pros

Great benefits (every other Friday off, holiday between Christmas and New Year, gym on site, great volunteer spirit) and location.

    Cons

Location (you can sometimes feel trapped on the hill). Few opportunities for promotions or movement within the organization. Bureaucratic. Self-important senior executives.

I have been working at Getty Trust full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fascinating, knowledgeable coworkers; appreciative management (in the Trust, at least); clear direction and communication.

And the little things mean a lot: Every other Friday off, onsite gym, lunchtime gallery visits, talks and tours, etc.

    Cons

Not tons of upward growth opportunities -- if you're happy where you are, great, but some good people have to eventually leave to grow. Temporary negative (but it seems like FOREVER) is the lagging 405 construction and front-gate rebuilding that makes getting to work and going home highly frustrating.

I worked at Getty Trust as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Supervisors truly appreciated me and my work and I them and theirs.

    Cons

They wanted me to stay, I would have only I was on a mission to explore London for a few years instead, so I'm sorry I could bring them (and this role) with me on my UK adventures!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have earlier years selectable on this site - was a lucky contract temp at this wonderful place in early 2007 (not 2010, which was the earliest year selectable below!).
