Pros
Pay is good. No matter how old you are you receive some form of benefits. One week fully paid vacation for all employees. Very accepting of changing availability year round.
Cons
The worst part of working at giant eagle as a high school student is the fact that you have to be part of the union. The union doesn't offer any perks to the younger workers, but still requires heavy union dues.
Advice to Senior Management
I would ask the management of Giant Eagle to take the time to communicate with all their employees. It always made for a better work day when you felt the manager took time to converse with you.
Pros
Vacations if you've been there long enough
Raises every few months
Flexibility with hours
Easy straightfoward work
We get one free product every month
For Xmas, all of us employees at my store got a 15 dollar gift card
Cons
Customers can be difficult and rude at times. Some try to take advantage of Giant Eagle by using everything against you to get a free cake.
In my experience, I haven't really been praised when I do a good job.
If you do anything wrong, they just tell your department manager a couple days later instead of calmly telling you so you can fix the mistake before it's too late.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes customers need to be told "no." We can be nice and say no to them, but they can't always have their way 24-7. We employees work hard and it always isn't our fault when customers are unhappy.
Pros
Good Pay for the work, th union get you lots of great benefits paid vacation....
Cons
very boring....and repetitive....but easy money
Pros
-Get paid weekly
-Discounts are okay if you are buying like 1 or 2 things.
Cons
-Too much favoritism to customers when there are issues.
-Not getting enough help one day and have too much help the next.
-Keeping employees that refuse to come to work
-etc
Advice to Senior Management
As you typical management, stop trying to rule over your employees. Quit ruling favoritism to customers over us when there are problems, especially when the issue points at the customer.
Pros
Very flexible with understanding employees that are going to school. They also care about their employees a great deal with circumstances.
Cons
Pay raises because they don't happen often enough as well as having managers decide how much more money you get when the time comes.
Advice to Senior Management
More direction on sales floor because there was never enough feedback on what they wanted you to do after tasks were completed.
Pros
They are very flexable about your work schedule at sometimes
Cons
The older workers are just complainers, I dont like the fact that I was knocked from full time to part time and my benefits were taken from me and my hours were not good after that and I had bills plus kids, but they didnt care because the mangers were getting the 40 hours. So I found another job making 42K with benefits and I told Giant Eagle good bye! I dont even think managers are making that much and they been there for 20 and 30 years. pathetic!!!!
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Good vacation, lots of locations, good coverage for vacation and sick days, many stores have overlapping pharmacists for part of the day. Seems to be a growing company. Ability to outsource many refilled prescriptions to be filled at a dedicated pharmacy which sends with next drug order. Has a lot of potential. A lot of great people to work with.
Cons
Stress. Privately owned, no stock options. Nepotism? Unclear chain of command for problem resolution. A lot of outside management (store managers, HR managers) seems disinterested at best, hostile at worst in relation to pharmacy operations. Poor technician screening and training. Many pharmacists now treated as expendable merchandise, and there seems to be decreasing job security and loyalty to the employees. RX manager salary is a trifle amount extra compared to the extra expectations, leading talented employees to step back, coast, and/or become floaters. Disappointing technology. Very little recognition for good work, but quick to receive negative criticism.
Advice to Senior Management
Have management and human resource employees spend time/work in the pharmacy to understand it.--one with a drive-thru. Develop better and adequate training for new hire technicians. Get pharmacists' input on new technician hiring and training. Have scheduled training sessions for pharmacists: new policies, department disciplinary protocol, and tips for inter-department communication. Let the pharmacy know when you see they are doing a good job--9+/10 feedback is negative.
Pros
Giant Eagle ensures customers and team members are treated with respect. Every team member is empowered to correct customer service issues. It is a great place to work and shop. You can have fun and give excellent customer service at the same time. If I feel I need a change, I just apply for another position within Giant Eagle. I don't have to change companies to make a change.
Cons
Team members receive free health insurance. Managers have to pay a portion of their insurance. I understand I am fortunate to have insurance. I just would like the same benefits as team members.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time in the stores working with team members.
