Pros
Very friendly culture
Good work-life balance
Good professional development
Cons
Compensation not as competitive
Office can be too relaxed at times
Advice to Senior Management
Better strategy to attract top talent
Pros
Great people, opportunities to advance, experience different departments, flexible, reasonable pay, lots of locations to work at, easy to transfer to different stores
Cons
Unions are awful and hard to work in, some people will avoid work by making excuses about being in a different union, merit is based on length of employment instead of ability to work
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of grocery unions if possible, have more career opportunities for recent college graduates, educate managers more about the business side of things
Pros
nationally recognized company
adequate benefits
advancement possibilities
secure company
Cons
promotions not based on talent, yet who you are related to or who you are "close" to
many corp managers when failing are moved to other positions so they can fail somewhere else
company does not embrace cultural diversity
company does not welcome "outsiders, seems they don't want any new ideas
good people let go so others can make their annual bonuses
Advice to Senior Management
The company will never become " Top Place to Work" unitl executive management walks it instead of talks it. Having a highly paid faimly member run this initative speaks volumes as to core issues with company
Pros
Met some good people and made friends i still have even though i dont work their anymore
Cons
Manager never worked
Manger and employees fighting and talking about each other
Pay is horrible
Advice to Senior Management
Do your job and stop all the fighting and bickering, thats why no one stays long
Pros
-Get paid weekly
-Discounts are okay if you are buying like 1 or 2 things.
Cons
-Too much favoritism to customers when there are issues.
-Not getting enough help one day and have too much help the next.
-Keeping employees that refuse to come to work
-etc
Advice to Senior Management
As you typical management, stop trying to rule over your employees. Quit ruling favoritism to customers over us when there are problems, especially when the issue points at the customer.
Pros
Work life balance, on site cafeteria, friendly people, low stress environment, meaningful work, family company
Cons
Promotions are not clearly based on standardized measures so people get promoted and others question it and there is tension surrounding it.
Advice to Senior Management
Implement a development program and clear career paths
Pros
Working with friendly people as well as customers.
Cons
I would have liked to have more incentives.
Pros
-My awesome coworkers. If it weren't for them, I never would have made it this long.
-Usually they give you the days you request off.
-For the most part, they'll make accommodations for high school/college students.
Cons
Where do I start?
-Horrible pay. Don't expect to make much over minimum wage without working there for at least three years.
-Raises are practically nonexistent.
-Management is a joke. The store manager sits in her office and watches the video cameras, trying to catch people doing something wrong. Other managers are completely incompetent and never anywhere to be found when you need them.
-Customers are horrible, and treat you like crap just because you work there and are thus 'below them', I guess.
-Pretty much no training: I think I got ten minutes of training on register and then was left to fend for myself.
-Say goodbye to your weekends.
-They have no problem working you eight to ten days in a row without a day off.
-Extremely busy especially on the weekends, and there are never enough people scheduled.
-Some people slack off and there is nothing done about it.
-Those who do work hard get no recognition.
-No opportunity to work full-time, unless you're a manager.
-Did I mention the extremely bad pay?
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that the poor scrubs working these crappy retail positions are PEOPLE and treat them with some respect. Also, give everyone a raise already.
Pros
discount
job security
decent pay
benefits
some great programs if you use them
Cons
bad communication
small amount of people do all the work
giant eagle manages exceptions
hard to get full-time status
management pulls stunts and plays games
Advice to Senior Management
on paper it looks great to be a giant eagle employee but the union has allowed too many people to keep their job even after poor performance.
Pros
Family atmosphere, good people, very busy
Cons
Sometimes chaotioc, more work than anyone would ever be able to accomplish
