I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They do have an excellent benefits package that they offer to their part-time employees. Flexible schedule and the job is not very stressful to do.

    Cons

Pay is pretty sub-standard and they cut out their maintenance department to save a little money....which puts the responsibility on other workers to clean up messes. Also, I am not a huge fan of the finger scanner as a means to using their time clock, what is so wrong with a badge? Why do I need to submit intrusive information about myself just to punch in for work?

The management seems to be lost most of the time, except for maybe a one or two. They are quick to go around and blame someone for something when they have no evidence that said person did anything. Favoritism is apart of the culture at this grocery store.

You know a company and management is pretty much lost when in their own orientation, they pretty much admit to copying another stores practices (Wegmans) to try and make it onto Forbes 100 best places to work. That will not happen with the management that they install to run stores. Even their new stores that they are currently building have the same layout design as Wegmans stores. C'mon guys!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire back you maintenance department to keep the store clean and friendly. And start another (new) management training program or something to get these guys to be more efficient and more encouraging to their subordinates.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay (I make more than my friends in fast food)
Great benefits (Health insurance for part time is literally unbeatable)
Can get off almost any day once seniority is established
Can work any shift you desire

    Cons

    No chance in moving up
    Very hard to change departments
Managers never seem to have good ideas and change things that don't need to be changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing things so much and let us do our jobs the way we have been. Change is supposed to make things easier/better not more difficult.

I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Sometimes you have plenty if hours. They pay weekly. And they are a union. If you are interested in staying here it a while these things may be worth while.

    Cons

Management moves around amongst the stores instead of a poor manager being moved out of the company. Sometimes hours are hard I come by and cross training isn't reliable.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is very easy and laid back for the most part. The job is simple and requires little to no effort. The benefits are excellent for part time workers.

    Cons

Don't expect to move forward in the company or feel worthy of your existence. You can suggest things that will benefit the company, but they are rarely heard. Pretty much just accept their minor rules and live with the ones that make no sense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so controlling over small details. Pay more attention to the bigger picture not the small petty things.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Union
    -Good Co-Workers
    -Above average pay
-Not expected to do several things at once.
    -Nice Break Room
    -Comfortable Uniforms
    -Flexible Scheduling

    Cons

-Unstable Hours. Especially right now. I'm getting about 10 hours less then I usually do so far this year.
    - Only hear from Management when your doing something wrong, or they feel your not being productive enough.
    -Short Breaks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more oppurtunities for advancement and raises. I would like to make a career out of Giant Eagle, but it seems especially now like a dead-end job.
Have hours be more stable, don't slash everyone to the minimum when the company itself is doing well financially.
