Pros
They promote teamwork both between peers and management/interns. They value all employee opinions and lives.
Cons
Sometimes you can get stuck in a rut doing the same thing
Pros
Great supervisor
Good work / life balance
Cons
Need to give more training to personel (especially when they ask for it) so they can do their job not just expect the employee to know the information and then base job performance reviews off the expected knowlege.
Line of Business are still their silo's even thought senior management says they are not.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop cultivating an "A" type culture and be more inclusive of other personality types. Recognize that a company is more than "when is the next store going to open" but how to do keep all the other stores stocked and current as well .
Pros
Great place to work
Flexible work hours
Fun time with majority good people
Cons
Some customers are difficult but its retail.
Advice to Senior Management
Open more full time positions
Pros
Great pay, $10/hr for cashier/lot attendant responsibilities, good atmosphere and the managers are competent. The location and work shifts are satisfactory.
Cons
Sometimes, you don't recieve adequate feedback about your performance. Advancement within the company itself should be more structured and fair.
Advice to Senior Management
Prices for good are somewhat higher than other retailers, but the way the employees are treated makes up for any mishaps. The pay here is higher than in any other chain grocery store in the area and I haven't seen anyone complaining yet. Leadership is competent
Pros
nationally recognized company
adequate benefits
advancement possibilities
secure company
Cons
promotions not based on talent, yet who you are related to or who you are "close" to
many corp managers when failing are moved to other positions so they can fail somewhere else
company does not embrace cultural diversity
company does not welcome "outsiders, seems they don't want any new ideas
good people let go so others can make their annual bonuses
Advice to Senior Management
The company will never become " Top Place to Work" unitl executive management walks it instead of talks it. Having a highly paid faimly member run this initative speaks volumes as to core issues with company
Pros
TM Discounts, Flexible Schedule, Cross-Train, Unionized Jobs, & Benefits.
Cons
GEBS, 5S, Safety 1st, Not enough allotted hours for departments, Hard to grow within the company.
VERY DISRESPECTFUL MANAGERS!
Advice to Senior Management
Do your job by TEACHING & WORKING 1on1 with TM. Don't just reprimand!
Pros
Very friendly culture
Good work-life balance
Good professional development
Cons
Compensation not as competitive
Office can be too relaxed at times
Advice to Senior Management
Better strategy to attract top talent
Pros
Some of the people that have been there for a long time are great to work with
Management mostly have good personalities
It's close to home
Cons
Complete lack of room for advancement
Nepotism to the extreme - Children that are not qualified to be management ascend to the position because they are related to higher-ups
Lack of raises is insulting
Pros
People still need to eat during recessions, so our jobs are pretty secure. Fast paced. Good work environment. Best part of working there is the group of people in the trenches. These folks work hard and play hard. Never a dull moment at Giant Eagle for sure. Good LTI program once you make director. Strongest promotion, strong brand awareness, leadership position in sales and growth.
Cons
Leadership. There is a lot of favoritism at GE, and a lot of people in leadership positions that lack people skills. Our department has seen a lot of turnover, and a lot of the A level talent has left in the last few years due to this. The department leadership is full of yes men and women. To reactionary in marketplace. Its retail - it wears you down. There is a strong need to retain talent in this department and develop growth plans for these top performers.
Advice to Senior Management
Really compare the TMPOV surveys now Vs. the previous leadership. I think you will find some serious issues and flaws.
Pros
Giant Eagle is a very stable workplace. i can walk in every day and know i have a job. the scheduleing is very easy and the customers are usually very kind. A good starting job for someone who needs one.
Cons
Giant eagle is the worst managed bussines in pittsburgh. The head managers walk around without knowing whats going on. we failed our last audit because of this reason. There is not one employee who actually knows what is going on in the store because off the over management and nothing ever gets finished on time. The pay for the amount of work is absolutely terrible. I am usually the one that must do as much work as possible just to finish all the tasks as i see everyone else stand around. Some employees i work with have a sense of management that is uuncalled for. i am constantly told to do tasks by people who have HALF the seniority as i do. The drama is rediculous. So far there have been 7 employees fired for misconduct, theft, and unwillingness to work just this year.
Advice to Senior Management
Support us... You preach the team based workplace but you dont show it. GEt up and learn the departments for yourself. Stop micromanaging and let the employees do the work without your unneccessary imput. If you want to work at giant eagle, go for it. But, use it as a student because the faster you leave the happier you will be.
