Pros
Flexibility around school schedules and other work requirements.
Paid vacations and personal days after one year.
Great coworkers and fun company culture.
Amazing employee recognition.
"Coaching" style of leadership rather than "managing".
Cons
After the holidays, they really cut back on the hours they give employees. So you can work 36 hours one week, and then the next week only get 14. And its all based on seniority.
Advice to Senior Management
The only criticism I have is that you work us full-time during the holidays and then hack our hours, and that creates a lot of stress on employees that depend on their paychecks. Other than that, I enjoy everything else about working here.
Pros
Great supervisor
Good work / life balance
Cons
Need to give more training to personel (especially when they ask for it) so they can do their job not just expect the employee to know the information and then base job performance reviews off the expected knowlege.
Line of Business are still their silo's even thought senior management says they are not.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop cultivating an "A" type culture and be more inclusive of other personality types. Recognize that a company is more than "when is the next store going to open" but how to do keep all the other stores stocked and current as well .
Pros
Good hourly kind employees, excellent benefits, competitive salary. The job can be quite rewarding in the sense that you can please a customer by giving them whatever they want. Its nice to be able to help and make others happy. Im impressed with our quality standards as well.
Cons
Favoritism is blatantly obvious in all areas of the store! Always shorthanded in every area of the store. Store Manager, HR Manager are completely useless when it comes to approaching them with any problems or issues you may have. No training hours available for new hires. They are basically thrown into whatever and they either sink or swim with no guidance or training which is not only dangerous but costly for the company. Workload is overwhelming everyday because of understaffing issues.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees like our customers we are important too. Give available training hours to those who need them. Relax the attendance policy on snow days! Listen to concerns and issues that one may have and sincerely take note and respond within a reasonable amount of time. Discipline the employees AND managers that actually need it. Oh, and for god sake is it too much to ask to have clean available paper towels in the public restrooms to dry your hands?
Pros
Great place to work
Flexible work hours
Fun time with majority good people
Cons
Some customers are difficult but its retail.
Advice to Senior Management
Open more full time positions
Pros
Vacations if you've been there long enough
Raises every few months
Flexibility with hours
Easy straightfoward work
We get one free product every month
For Xmas, all of us employees at my store got a 15 dollar gift card
Cons
Customers can be difficult and rude at times. Some try to take advantage of Giant Eagle by using everything against you to get a free cake.
In my experience, I haven't really been praised when I do a good job.
If you do anything wrong, they just tell your department manager a couple days later instead of calmly telling you so you can fix the mistake before it's too late.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes customers need to be told "no." We can be nice and say no to them, but they can't always have their way 24-7. We employees work hard and it always isn't our fault when customers are unhappy.
Pros
Met some good people and made friends i still have even though i dont work their anymore
Cons
Manager never worked
Manger and employees fighting and talking about each other
Pay is horrible
Advice to Senior Management
Do your job and stop all the fighting and bickering, thats why no one stays long
Pros
TM Discounts, Flexible Schedule, Cross-Train, Unionized Jobs, & Benefits.
Cons
GEBS, 5S, Safety 1st, Not enough allotted hours for departments, Hard to grow within the company.
VERY DISRESPECTFUL MANAGERS!
Advice to Senior Management
Do your job by TEACHING & WORKING 1on1 with TM. Don't just reprimand!
Pros
Good Pay for the work, th union get you lots of great benefits paid vacation....
Cons
very boring....and repetitive....but easy money
Pros
Great pay, $10/hr for cashier/lot attendant responsibilities, good atmosphere and the managers are competent. The location and work shifts are satisfactory.
Cons
Sometimes, you don't recieve adequate feedback about your performance. Advancement within the company itself should be more structured and fair.
Advice to Senior Management
Prices for good are somewhat higher than other retailers, but the way the employees are treated makes up for any mishaps. The pay here is higher than in any other chain grocery store in the area and I haven't seen anyone complaining yet. Leadership is competent
Pros
flexible work schedule, and weekly pay
Cons
lack of communication
inadequate pay raises
little to no recognition for "a job well done"
