I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Schedules are flexible for part time employees. There are an abundance of opportunities if one is looking to move up within the company. Employees in most stores are part of a union contract so wages are set with increases at specific intervals and rates. The healthcare program is one of the best I've seen. Also, store contributes towards the purchase of specialty shoes, i.e. slip resistant shoes, which can significantly reduce or completely eliminate that cost.

    Cons

Full-time employment isn't always readily available. If you're part time, the fluctuation in the hours you get weekly can make it hard to make ends meet. Also, for part time employees, benefits such as health care and 401k and vacation may not be available prior to working with the company a year.

Offered as many hours as you can handle. Helpful leadership. $1 above minimum wage.

    Cons

Not incredibly rewarding work. Very repetitive.

  8. It wasn't terrible. I would of liked more support from management. A "good job" goes a long way!

    I worked at Giant Eagle

    Pros

I felt like customers respected the store employees. I felt like a professional not just a line worker

    Cons

I felt like a number not an employee from management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company was very focused on numbers. Take a second to remember that employees have lives, too.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Consistently good hours for about a year now.
    Comfortable Uniform
    Nice Break Room
    Customers are generally friendly.
    Nice Store.
    Good Benefits.
    Union.
    Paid Vacations.
Decent with availability, time off requests.

    Cons

Very little chance for advancement, full time positions.
    Boring and repetitive.
Completely Random Scheduling. Had plenty of times where I close one night, and open the next.
    Working Holidays and Weekends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more chances for raises, full-time positions.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

-Flexibility of hours, especially in positions outside of cashiering.
-Union/employer benefits. Grandfathered union contract is great, the upcoming new contract not so much. 10% employee discount on STORE BRAND items, "affiliate discounts", lots of neat little programs for employees.
-Opportunities for advancement in company. (But I DO NOT suggest becoming a lifer)

Being a produce clerk is a wonderful position, definitely the most laidback in the store. You gradually learn the ins/outs of many plant variety's

    Cons

-NE Ohio union used to be great, but with revisions you'll be capped at 25 hours for PT positions w/ no health benefits
    -Rampant favoritism, management inconsistency
-Compensation: Minimum wage, may not be worth it in some depts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tone down some policies, there's no reason to lose people over harmless infractions.

Give better incentitives to work, in my region (NE Ohio) the incoming PTers are faced with a 25 hour-cap, ~$12 pay cap, less benefits. This means high turnover in the more demanding positions

I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy scheduling, if you are lucky you will get a good manager on shift that night and it makes the whole work experience pleasant.

    Cons

Some terrible managers, it really is a crapshoot as to what you're going to get. They do not pay you enough for the level of stress and work that you do, raises are few and far in between.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees a little better, bring back that little thing they had where the employees get 10% off giant eagle merchandise.
