I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everything always went smoothly between my coworkers and I I always received my scheduled hours Management was nice and was always there when I needed them

    Cons

I couldn't get a transfer when I had to move because of time I had to take off for my final exams Break time wasn't enough to get a snack

    Advice to Management

Add 5 minutes to break time Meet with potential transfers before turning down their requests, even the best employees have to take time off occasionally

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great manager in deli

    Cons

Be forewarned, there are several people working in this deli who will make your life a living hell. They've run off dozens of people over the years

    Advice to Management

Grow a pair and do something

I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get a flexible schedule and co-workers are typically very friendly making for a positive work environment.

    Cons

Pay is very low made worse by high union dues. Full time does not exist and one must wait over six months to be considered for a promotion despite experience.

    Advice to Management

Management does the best they can given the restrictions placed upon them. Treating employees like individuals rather than a body that can be easily replaced would help with turnover.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time

    Pros

Meeting new people, and somewhat organized system to request days off work

    Cons

Low raises, management always getting transferred around to different stores

    Advice to Management

Give larger wage increases for long term employees

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Not many "pros". You're always able to learn different things if you take the initiative. The pay is good, but many long timers in the building make just as much as you, and do about 1/10 of what you do.

    Cons

You don't get to choose the store you're sent to. All of the 'good' stores are given to people that aren't great at their job because they basically run themselves. You do anything and everything in the store in the lower sales stores. including cleaning bathrooms, pushing carts, stocking shelves, running register (because there's really no one else to do those things as hours are so tight) on top of the regular management activities you need to do. You work every holiday and weekend (retail) and definitely work more than the required 45 hours a week.

Great company. Very employee focused. Can gain a lot of experience.

    Cons

No room to move up unless you move to another state.

I have been working at Giant Eagle (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Giant Eagle is a great employer. Most locations I have worked at are friendly and fair. The Team Members are protected under a union for most things and there are a lot of benefits for working for the company.

    Cons

As a manager for kitchens you work your butt off for salaried pay which is decent but not great and get little to no recognition for doing outstanding work. You are constantly stressed because you feel your job is in jeopardy everyday.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to keep in better contact with lower management as middle management individuals act like they could care less about the "people" employed for Giant Eagle.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

10% discount on Giant Eagle brand items, even some of the food you order from the kitchen.

    Cons

The union is a con at my location. You think union you think you have help but you really don't it is very weak. Also because of the union raises are given just because and they aren't earned.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the union so that you can get rid of the people that aren't working out. Also take stop giving LP the power to over ride management at your stores. The head of LP is a bully.
