I worked at Giant Food Stores part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some good people working here. Its okay for an entry level position, or a part time job in high school.

    Cons

Low pay, with increasingly cut hours the higher pay rate you get as long as you're part time. The gossiping is heavy and it feels much like high school. They recently cut health insurance due to these hour cuts to many of the employees. There are many racist and homophobic people that work here as well as lazy but don't expect management to do anything. Mentioning this to management is just "gossip" and if you don't like it you can resign. Room for advancement is nil.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cull the poor workers and provide the ones that work hard the pay and benefits they deserve. A happy employee leads to happy customers. Listen to your staff!

I worked at Giant Food Stores part-time

    Pros

If they hire you as a part time worker that is what you are....

    Cons

When you are not scheduled to work you will receive a call / voicemail by several different people asking you to come in to cover shifts because of call outs. And because you are part time it is very rare you would get an 8 hour shift unless it's a holiday week. Majority of the time work only four hour shifts per week and some time you have more days off then on. The employment associate will tell you a computer generates your schedule they have nothing to do with it and it cannot override it. Which means if you're only scheduled one day that whole week that's all you're going to get until the next week come.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

it is not proper protocol for a member of the management team to be hooking up or dating associates with in the store.

Also the company should invest money in hiring Human resource managers in every store with 3 of experience in a human resource with a bachelors or masters degree. I understand is it is cheaper to pay an employment associate to do the hiring, the training, termination. It has been my experience employment associates are unprofessional, uneducated, unwilling to deal with everyday reality with in the workforce. And picks and choose who they like and when they want to talk to them.
