I have been working at Giant Food Stores part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility with changes in availability. Very friendly atmosphere, happy associates. I made a lot of friends there, both associates and customers. Pay raises every 6 months, and COLA adjustments after that. Was able to also do an internship with Giant--they don't advertise it to associates, but it is on their website so it's good to check.

    Cons

Management was not supportive of me as a checkout coach. Opportunities for full-time employment were few and far between.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are a team--please treat associates like teammates, not obstacles. Also, the store needs more cross-training.

I worked at Giant Food Stores part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Consistent part-time hours. Easy work. Decent pay with raises every 6 months. No pressure from management. Cant really go wrong

    Cons

Sometimes management was too leanient towards shift supervisors, and depending in your shift supervisor you might end up hating the job because if how lazy they are. And the hours vary per department per store. I averaged 30 hours a week which was great but my friend in produce averaged 12 hours a week....he was a good employee too. The supervisor in his department just for some reason liked having alot of employees with low hours, and mine liked having their employees make money. Which is great for me but b.s. for others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be tougher on your department supervisors they dont know much.

    Pros

You develop useful relationships with the elcletic group of people who work there. In a way, you are motivated to go to work because of seeing smiling faces. Its weird.

    Cons

An Extremely clique-y environment. you are either liked or you're not. Judgmental atmosphere amongst employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get on your employees level and quit the narcissism. & its okay to give incremental raises

    Pros

    Its a job
Your co workers are your new best friends, because management certainly isn't going to be

    Cons

we get new managment way too often. I'm pretty sure they do this just to prevent bonding in team members, and the possible formation of unions. Its the opposite model of winco and Whole foods, and it's oppressive if you are old enough to understand that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

try reading you own company policies.

I worked at Giant Food Stores part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Mostly nice co-workers who were easy to get along with.

    Cons

Management was lazy and unorganized. Low pay and inflexible with their scheduling. They try to keep most of their employees on part-time status, just under full-time, in order to avoid giving them insurance benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the pay, show some consideration for employee scheduling needs, and communicate better.
