A Well Conceived Business

Night Baker (Former Employee)

I worked at Giant Food Stores full-time for more than 5 years

ProsMost of the managers are friendly and willing to listen to you. Once you've worked your way up you'll get a decent paycheck providing you're working full time.

ConsBeing that Giant is open 24 hrs you may have to work 3rd shift like I did for many years.

Advice to Senior ManagementPerhaps try to ensure everyone is working to their best potential as in the 6 years I've worked for the company I've seen many associates get away with murder. This could be stealing, no call no shows, slacking on the job, causing problems for others, talking poorly to customers, etc.

Liked working in the pharmacy

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Giant Food Stores

ProsFun job, coworkers were great, lots of responsibility and room to shine. I liked having a job that involved me in medicine from as early on as high school.

ConsPatients get angry with you because their insurance sucks.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome managers were resentful that pharmacists made more money.

Do more with less

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee)
Gaithersburg, MD

I have been working at Giant Food Stores full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood Medical insurance, It seems like this company will be around for a while according to the financial statements even with the competition gaining the market share.

ConsCutting hours and expecting managers to work more hours without the tools to succeed, implementing new techniques in stores without enough data from stores that were pilots.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to keep the talents that you still have, Giant lost quite a very good group of managers to the competition

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
