I worked at Giant Tiger part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Most coworkers were great.
Manager was easy to get along with, let everybody do their jobs without judgement and put a lot of energy in keeping the employees happy. Very positive atmosphere.
Intercom is fun to play with when the goal is to delight customers.

    Cons

Few long time coworkers were lazy.
The pay is only minimum wage. However small raises happen here and there over time.

    Pros

Great company values, real sense of family and cooperation between head-office and stores.

    Cons

Salary is low for supervisors and assistant managers with a lot of responsibilities (franchised setting: purchasing, ordering, inventory management)

I worked at Giant Tiger full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It was an average retail job without much to stress over.
Co-workers were nice and fun to be around.
Prices were pretty low compared to other stores, and you get a discount.

    Cons

Management can make the job very frustrating.
Seemed to care almost too much about the small things that barely had any effect on sales.
Some of the products sold feel very "con-artist" like.
Sales of each department were posted daily, and you would get praised or scolded depending on if you did good or bad, yet often these figures are completely out of your control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most people working here put up with alot for the wage they get, don't undervalue what they do.

I worked at Giant Tiger full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits package along with industry leading inventory control processes. Community involvement is commendable and locations are well planned out.

    Cons

Store managers force dept managers to make unethical inventory adjustments to misrepresent actual inventory levels. Labour laws not adhered to (overtime not being paid out to dept managers). Scheduling is not family friendly (very few weekends or evenings off). Stock rooms are disaster areas which make one's job ten times harder than it should be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are reasons why these "managers" are no longer working for the bigger retailers - they are just bringing their poor management skills to GT.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
  9.

I have been working at Giant Tiger full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Management on store level care about their associates
-Each store has a franchise owner in the building almost every day
-Concerns are usually addressed at morning meetings

    Cons

-Time management is near impossible with the amount of required duties on some days
-Frequently have to assist outside your designated department ie.) receiving, Carts, carry-outs, bathrooms

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I feel that the associates who have shown they know what it takes to make increases and have actually made a significant increase in their department overall should be recognized better and compensated for their efforts. I find it discouraging to make so many positive changes that benefit the company only to receive a slightly higher profit share bonus at the end of the year which also benefits those who may have not even tried at all. Hard workers need to be shown they are appreciated otherwise they may seek other opportunities.

I worked at Giant Tiger full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Workers are friendly, most of the time. You have to always be on the run to complete your goals of the day.

    Cons

Customers are always being mean. No job opportunities. You're always running and they just don't seem to care that much, as long as the job is FULLY achieved. If it's not, you're in troubles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be proud of the work of everyone and say thank you so they can feel like they mean something to you.
