    Pros

Gilbane makes you feel like you are part of their family. Gilbane recognizes hard work and it is shown through appreciation. If I were to continuing working for a construction company, Gilbane would be my first choice.

    Cons

A lot of pressure to participate in events after the work day is done. As an intern, this was not a 9-5 job, as there were a lot of what felt like obligated celebrations and events to go to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management did a wonderful job making me feel comfortable during the interview in front of 10 employees from upper management.

    Pros

So many different things to do that you never get bored. Projects are very satisfying when completed. Upper management does a great job showing apprication for employees.

    Cons

Too much work. The stress level is through the roof and the amount of hours needed for any project it seems is unreasonably high. Compensation should be based off of 60 hour work weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work Life Balance is stressed, however little exists. We work our butts off for a decent wage, however, the life portion of this should be greater emphasized.

    Pros

Great pay, great management. You will learn many new industry specific skills, terms, insight.

    Cons

Too much work, not enough people to complete the tasks due to budgeting, therefore you will get fair compensation for your position but expect to be overworked, and have long hours.

I have been working at Gilbane Building Company part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Gilbane sticks to their core values and what they pride their company on. Working for a family owned company makes employees feel as if they are apart of the family as well. Plenty of room to grow as a person and the learning curve is steep.

    Cons

Getting on a project is tough at first because you have to jump right into the fast paces environment. However, this could happen at any job. It just take a little bit of work and determination to feel comfortable.

A great place to work with exceptional beneifit and people oriented culture. The senior management is in tune with the needs of their employees.

    Cons

I have been working at Gilbane Building Company full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Large amount of growth for the company in NYC offers great opportunity and growth for young professionals. Great training programs for safety, cost management, and leadership.

    Cons

Expect to work 60-70 hours per week, including all Saturdays. Pay and bonuses are not appropriate for the tasks required. Limited support from upper Senior Managers / Executives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With so much growth and expansion you need to be careful of the Senior Executives and Senior Project Managers you steal from other companies. Not all of them have the best interest of the team in mind and do not follow the "same values" that Gilbane was built on.
