Don't do it for the pay.

Teacher (Current Employee)
Gilbert, AZ

I have been working at Gilbert Public Schools full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSome of the best co-workers I have ever had. These people care about the students and it shows. Tremendous place to be if you love students.

ConsThe school board has handcuffed the district. No pay raises and the board took away the ones that were promised for continued education. The outlook is grim and teachers are leaving in mass for other districts and jobs in other fields completely.

Advice to Senior ManagementSchool Board, you need to pay your teachers and pick up the tab on some of the benefits.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Teaching at GPS for 4 years has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience.

Elementary Teacher (Current Employee)
Gilbert, AZ

I have been working at Gilbert Public Schools full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt is wonderful working with children, although that would be the same at any district i'm sure. I have met several other teachers who are very nice to work with.

ConsI have taught at 2 different schools and not been impressed at all with either principal. My current school had 7 teachers quit at the end of last year and 1 already this year (3 weeks into the year). Many of the issues just have to do with the state of our nation right now, but generally speaking this is a very demanding and frustrating job. You will likely feel overwhelmed, frustrated, depressed, and/or underpaid often. I stuck with it for this long because i kept telling myself it would get better/easier, but ultimately it just isn't. :(

Neutral employer, by no means a great place to work, but certainly not a bad place either.

They know how to do it right

Teacher (Current Employee)
Gilbert, AZ

I have been working at Gilbert Public Schools full-time for more than a year

ProsThere is a sense of love-dovey family here and appreciation not seen in many other districts. Administrators generally are talented and the district ensures support staff are at very helpful numbers. The behavior and academic support systems in place are valuable tools for student academic growth.

ConsPay. Benefits are not as good as one would think.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out how to help teachers not have to have dual income households.
