I worked at Gill Industries (More than 3 years)

    Pros

you have a lot of good people to work with hard working friends, makes the atmosphere worth while

    Cons

The Management tends not to be honest with employees even though the company is family owned employees are considered and treated as a replaceable commodity with no concern for there years of work considered something that is easily discarded with no loyalty even if the employee has been loyal to the company

    Advice to Management

revamp how you treat employees stop looking at the company as only belonging to your family the employees helped build your company shouldn't be thrown out like the trash.

I worked at Gill Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not many. Paychecks never bounced. Managers were OK but should not be trusted. Buildings and grounds were well kept. Location was good for my commute from West of Grand Rapids.

    Cons

Working at Gill Industries. As a salaried employee who spent much more than 40 hours and often took work home they took everything. Pinked slipped for no cause of my own, no thank you, nothing except I did get a slight severance. Not bitter, no real reason to be. I was not the first they have treated this way. In my field of work I may find myself dealing with Gill in the future. If so, I will respectfully decline their services. My standards are higher than they could ever achieve.

    Pros

Production was a 2 crew operation that worked 4 ten hour days per week. Virtually no weekends. Very fast paced environment, no redunancy or monotany with the job.

    Cons

They "clean house" every year and get rid of anyone that they don't like. And they make it very clear that they do this each year so they keep people in fear mode working weekends, late nights etc. I took a $10,000 pay cut to work for this company. Benefits were the worst in all 4 companies I've worked at.

    Advice to Management

Look for people with integrity to lead lower levels of the organization.

    Pros

Good vacation benefits: up to 192hrs

    Cons

Management closed the doors on Clayton Eng. Tools. They kept all vacation, and did not help place anyone. There were approx. 38 employees. The contacts that Gill had could have been used to place everyone. The average length of time at Clayton was 14 years. The company treated them like they were strangers. Very disappointed!!

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees..they are the company not you
