    Sales Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGreat company to work for. Allow you to run your business. Great opportunity to hire and train sales teams.

ConsHave to wait 5 years before you can start to participate in the company pension plan.

Advice to Senior ManagementSort out the digital offerings. Too many products for sales to sell. The focus will always fall on the products that are easiest to sell.

    Unpleasant

Advertising Sales Representative (Current Employee) Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsGood co-workers and clients are fantastic to work with. Too bad we have to lie to them to cover up for management.

ConsPoor Management. Company spends millions on acquisitions but cuts existing properties to bare bones. Layed ofair f workers. out-sourced those jobs outside the country to avoid paying Canadian workers a fair union wage.

Advice to Senior ManagementCould be great if you appreciated your workers instead of threatening them.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Report Developer (Current Employee) Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsFriendly relaxed environment. Very friendly staff/management.

ConsNot terribly exciting job. Tough world, newspaper publishing. They try new things, but it's tough to compete against new media in 2014.

Good until I was laid off.

Senior Graphic Designer (Former Employee) Burnaby, BC (Canada)

ProsGood benefits and good pay. My immediate co-workers were really wonderful people. I get bored easily so the fast pace helped keep me mentally challenged.

ConsNewspapers are really taking a hit with this economy and all the multi-media available. There's no room for advancement, and more layoffs are probable.

    Advice to Senior ManagementNone.

Some of the managers had low skill levels and that made working here unpleasant

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Burnaby, BC (Canada)

ProsGood benefits and wage due to the fact it was a union job. Some great colleagues.

ConsThe atmosphere was difficult to work in and interfered with job satisfaction. People were let go when the paper found a cheaper way to produce the paper in India.
