Internship

Scientist Student Intern (Former Employee)
Parsippany, NJ

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern for less than a year

ProsIt really was a great place to work, people were always friendly and ready to help, the office is so vibrant and colorful that you love coming to work every day :)

ConsI don't think there were any except for the place and the absence of public transport there , since I didn't have a car it really was a hassle to reach work.

A great company with not so great people

Director (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFeels great working with some of the best brains in the business,Strong emphasis on employee health, resilience and diversity ( now) , A university in inself - gives one huge amount of oppurtunities to develop one's skills, global perspectives & insights

ConsVery bureaucratic, outstanding performance with moderate pay, need to be connected and be in good books, very less transparency and low empowerment; star talent not nurtured , constant transofrmation & restructuring leading to job insecurity .

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in transparency , give solid growth & development oppurtunities at middle level, be willing to take risks, move out of bureaucratic mindset and cut down constant transformation..let employees perform without the fear of job security

Decent money for my age but NOT worth it!

Pharmaceuticals Sales Representative (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLearned a lot about disease states, flexibility of hours, and potential opportunity to grow.

ConsUnethical teammates, poor treatment of employees, you are just a number. If I could do it again, I wouldn't.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnsure your managers know how to encourage and get the most out of people. Scaring with intimidation, threatening and nitpicking do not increase employee morale. CEO was great when we met him during training, my direct boss was evil.

Overall Good Company

Sales (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline

ProsThe sales training is top notch and ongoing. Personally, I have met a ton of great people over the years. Your experience will greatly depend on your manager. Excellent benefits. Specialty divisions embrace a more entrepreneurial culture.

ConsAt times, goals are extremely unrealistic and no one can hit them. During this current climate, much like other pharmaceutical companies, there is a lot of change to key areas such as incentive compensation and recognition. These changes seem to keep happening so you never really know how you're being measured. The pharmaceutical division is much more micromanaged.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe transparency can go to far sometimes in terms of what is next to come...it can be disruptive to employees when they are worrying about new performance metrics but trying to function under the current ones. More checks and balances should be in place for District managers. Many of them are extremely unprofessional, unethical and unqualified.
