    Pros

Excellent benefits, good vacation, pension, bonus

    Cons

Managers do not go through any kind of training, performance reviews are unfair due to GSK requiring managers to pick a certain number of employees to fill the required "fail" slots.

Former Employee - Sales Representative in Detroit, MI

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. Training is top-notch and ranks at top Pharma companies. Sales training is very good and gives employees new to sales an excellent roadmap to follow. Work life balance is great if you are an efficient worker.

    Cons

It is very hard to get noticed in a company that is this large. Your are dependent on your manager. Managers are trained to be "Box-checkers" and will grade as such. This is challenging because a true sales person knows that you cannot follow a script exactly every single time which is what a lot of managers require.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your reps. While sales are obviously important, rolling it up into "Best Practices" and expecting everyone to sell in an extremely similar fashion is doing your sales teams a dis-service. Make sure that your employees know that they are not just a number.

Former Contractor - Senior Scientist in Collegeville, PA

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The people in my group were wonderful to work with, excellent expertise and good team work. Opinions of everyone were heard, good scientific discussions took place.

    Cons

Few individuals were hard to interact with, communication skills were not fostered by management. Global reorganization left people worried. Performance evaluations were very stressful and impacted work morale negatively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication has to be made a key asset to every team that wants to work effectively across disciplines. Contract workers are treated differently, perhaps that is the norm, but for example team awards are given only to regular employees, even if most of the work may have been done by the contractor. Very demoralizing, fails to foster loyalty and trust.
