I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

Good company, beautiful campus, fancy building and work environment, great people to work with, a lot of learning opportunities, good life work balance.

    Cons

The work space is "open space" with very little privacy. It may be a little noisy because people here have a lot of telephone meetings. There used to be free coffee, but no free coffee since last winter.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The people in my group were wonderful to work with, excellent expertise and good team work. Opinions of everyone were heard, good scientific discussions took place.

    Cons

Few individuals were hard to interact with, communication skills were not fostered by management. Global reorganization left people worried. Performance evaluations were very stressful and impacted work morale negatively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication has to be made a key asset to every team that wants to work effectively across disciplines. Contract workers are treated differently, perhaps that is the norm, but for example team awards are given only to regular employees, even if most of the work may have been done by the contractor. Very demoralizing, fails to foster loyalty and trust.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline

    Pros

The Best People I have worked with in the industry, both in the Hospital and field. Launched many Great Medicines over the years and I loved being the leader in respiratory medicines.

    Cons

Senior leadership could not manage through adversity, could only double down on their mistakes. Placed to much emphasis on call activity and Metrics which made representatives chase calls to make their numbers. This environment did not show the importance of waiting a very important physician out to make a call. Could only see the short term wins on call activity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to selling and recognize account managers and representatives on their accomplishments. Pay them on Sales, we are still a sales organization.
