Too many people trying to make one decision

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than a year

Prospotentially good career prospects if in the right department. Good company percs.

Consfavouritism, too many people trying to be heard and to be visible to climb the ladder, some managers talk down to you, depending on department too much heirarchy.

Highly enjoyable, I feel valued as a team member and trusted in what I do.

QA Analyst (Current Employee)
Worthing, South East England, England (UK)

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline as a contractor for less than a year

Pros- Fair and decent wage
- Overtime availability
-Trusting and relaxed work environment

Cons- Difficult to progress with the company if you're a contract worker
- Short term contract work in the majority, very few permanent places.

Advice to Senior ManagementA greater number of opportunities to commit to working for the company in the long term. Allowing contract workers greater flexibility in selecting what they want to do with their career.

Disappointing

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than a year

ProsStrong product pipeline and good people although the experience is being lost with no succession planning

ConsCorporate re-organisation has been handled very badly and people have been treated appallingly. Management are deluding themselves into thinking it is going well as decisions and timelines are baffling staff. Senior management appear to be trying to clone the organisation into a stepford type operation of international under 35 year olds and lose all the people with experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out of your ivory towers at GSK house and your executive jollys to corporate sites around the globe and start to meet the stakeholders where the work goes on at the R&D locations. The stakeholders will tell you how the support functions are not supporting the business. A good organisation is one that has a blend of youth and experience which is something GSK are culling and will suffer from in future years

Brilliant placement year

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern for more than a year

ProsI was in a small team which meant I was trusted with a lot of responsibility and got to be involved in projects with senior management, supportive of personal development, moving around, training etc.

ConsBrentford as a location was a bit of a pain for commuting but very nice offices to make up for it, benefits were not extended to placement students

Advice to Senior ManagementMake it easier for placement students to be hired after graduating
