Pros
Good benefits. 401k with matching. Health, Vision and Dental Insurance. Sick leave time. Glazers will pay for continued education.
Cons
Since it is a beverage company employees often have to work most holiday weekends. Big turnover in merchandisers and drivers. Must occasionally work nights doing functions Employees tend to work long hours. Not family friendly.
Advice to Senior Management
Glazer's tends to be understaffed. Have adequate drivers, merchandisers and supervisors. Reward those employees who go above and beyond. Pay structure well below competitors..
Pros
good health and dental benefits, family-type atmosphere, reliable paycheck, classes and learning opportunities are given often to increase product knowledge
Cons
managers often times know less than sales representative re: company issues and changes, communication between management and sales representatives is lacking to say the least, pay is not commensurate with the amount of work required to do your job, potential for promotion or an interdepartmental move is essentially non-existent, company rests on its laurels while getting it's rear end kicked by the competition, car and cell phone allowance needs revision due to increased cost of driving and cellular service, quite a few managers are very lazy and incompetent, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
get back to basics and quit trying to take over the world, pay your employees like you appreciate the hard work that they do, modern and functional equipment is a must, baby-sitting and monitoring employees with GPS tracking devices is petty and makes employees feel undermined and incapable of being adults who get their work done (may be used to track mileage, but we aren't stupid and know the real reason those were implemented), etc.
Pros
Flexibility and free wine. Incentives from supplier are usually decent.
Cons
Disrepectful Managers that will lie to cover themselves. You also have to pay for your own gas when most reps are driving upwards 150-200 miles a day.
Advice to Senior Management
Look into who your hiring as managers. lots of unethical behavior happening at this company.
Channel stuffing is not the way to accomplishing your company goals. It only makes it harder the following year when supplier are wanting you to sell more. Any compentent senior management that gave 2 cents about whats happening at the branches would look at numbers and ask questions as to why 60 percent of cases are shipped out the last 2 days of the month. Its because they are shipped and then returned the next month!
Pros
Self-directed work in many ways. Plenty of opportunities to innovate within your responsibilities and generate more sales (and therefore income). The job can be a lot of fun as well.
Cons
Often long, sometimes odd hours. The job doesn't require a lot of critical thinking or creativity; just good people skills and a baseline of time management and organizational skills.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication between branch-level management and sales and the home office. Greater push-back from management to suppliers regarding placement goals; some products just aren't appropriate in some locations.
Pros
Family environment, and close relationships
Cons
have to be in the "in" crowd for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
accountability at all levels, 360 reviews
Pros
You get to make your own hours
Cons
Too many scheduled meetings that you have to attend
Pros
Being in the scene and getting into all the clubs. Supplier dinners and expensive product tasting. Working outside the office.
Cons
Low pay for the amount of work and endless paper work! A compensation plan that changes in there favor. Inexperienced upper management in your field and unrealistic product goals.
Advice to Senior Management
If you going to make someone a general sales manger make sure they know the job! Pay your people what there worth and stop trying to cut corners with product support. Employe morale is at a all time low because of poor management.
Pros
Unique industry allows for out-of-the-box thinking and is open to solutions. Fun environment with youthful attitudes.
Cons
Pretty backward industry as far as technology goes. Constantly having to push business partners to engage technology.
Advice to Senior Management
Technology is the key to the distribution industry. To all industries right now... Give it the time, attention, understanding, and funding it must have to drive the organization forward and ensure its existence in the future.
Pros
It is a large private company, still ownedby the family, and there is a good work balance at the corporate headquarters. After 5:30, most people have gone home, and on weekends, almost no one is ever having to work. Not bad for the fifth largest privately owned employer in Dallas.
Cons
Since the work/life balance is pretty good, somtimes it's not easy to gain new responsibilities. There are not a lot of new management positions being created, and there is very litttle turnover in management, so it's not easy, at least if you work in accounting/finance to move up. That said, the pay and benefits are good, and the work/life balance is good, so it's a pretty good tradeoff.
Advice to Senior Management
I really don't have any advice, I think Glazers management is doing a good job. After being around 100 years, Glazers management keep doing what their doing.
Pros
Fun atmosphere, the people are great, a lot of perks in the bar and restaurant industry, great benefits, family owned.
Cons
It is hard to balance between your personal and work life with this position. There is no structure to your job, some days you work till 3 in the afternoon while other days you work until midnight!
