I have been working at Glentel

    Pros

-they care about people, staff, customers and managers
    -commission
-they hire internally (they promote internally)
    -always training(in class and online)
-great benefits for full time employers
    -autonomy
    -personal development opportunities (soft skills)

    Cons

-work life balance. you need to be good at time management
-since its based on monthly performance it tends to feel like a never ending cycle but that could also be exciting because if you do poorly one month you have a chance to re-do

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-work on uniformity throughout the company every store feels different

Former Employee - Service Technician in Vancouver, BC (Canada)

I worked at Glentel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I learned a lot about wireless business systems as this company has access to the major corporations and Government Agencies wireless systems. Depends who is in charge with the shop, you could have a flexible environment; you have access to many Motorola and Vertex two-way radio products and you have the chance to deal with professionals more often that other shops.
They offer health, dental and few other benefits if you are interested in those; the Manulife policy they offered had numerous restrictions but it was better than other shops offer.

    Cons

Office politics; the company is run by business men who have no technical skills, they see the numbers only, and would not hesitate to cut jobs or not approve salaries increases instead of looking into increasing the sales and the business exposure to new markets.
Also I was asked to sign a document that was keeping me away from their customers for five years after leaving the company.
There were few other employees who left the company within the same year.
This review is not about Wireless Wave, which is another business under the same leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Those people don't read these notes and never listen to any input from the first line employees. If one shop doesn't make them money, they are closing it instead of analyzing the problem.

    Pros

They have the best training program for increasing your selling skills. There are also many awards you can win.

    Cons

Their wage isn't the greatest compared to other wireless carriers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Logistics team is very weak and needs some improvement. Hardware inventory isn't bad but losing potential revenue in accessories.

I have been working at Glentel full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They truly care about their employees . professional trainings all year . lots of rooms for growth , huge opportunities for those who shows care and dedication.

Even after target announced that they are pulling out of Canada , Glentel closed target mobile banner and transfered as many people as they can to the other banners like wireless wave , T-Booth and wireless etc. And those who did not get a chance to move to other banners they got paid a super super generous severances .

Its nice to work for a company who cares .

if you are a really good sales person then you will make tons of money .

    Cons

The work is super competitive . you get to be up to speed and work on your work-life balance to be able to keep going because you will have to put extra hours when work needs that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Secret shop your people , there is definitely people who don't deserve to be working in the company regardless their performance.

I have been working at Glentel

    Pros

Great coworkers that hold the same position as you.
Lots of resources for further training.
    Great personal relationships with coworkers.

    Cons

Very much a 'suck up' job. All the managers I've had except 1 all sucked up extremely hard to the DM.
The managers I've had were very rude/not well liked and used their power to scare employees
    Lots of accidental sale stealing
Hard to get anywhere with issues with another staff member. Filed an HR claim against a manager as as soon as she found out she threw me and my other coworker under the bus and went on sick leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If I could give any advice it would be to do some secret shopping over the span of say a week at a store without notice, to see how the store actually is. I've been treated rudely by a manager in front of a customer and I've always wished that was a secret shop.

    Pros

None. They don't care for hard working employees.

    Cons

Fear mongering, threat filled environment. I was a manager for two years. Finally voiced my opinion and they let me go.
Not an ethical company in my opinion.

If you're looking for a company who will reward hard work. Look elsewhere.
