I worked at Global Market Insite full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - As another reviewer mentioned, there is no longer a new idea every week and initiatives are clearly communicated throughout the company.
    - The people are 2nd to none, and usually the reason a lot of people stay around so long given the collegiate, supportive atmosphere and understanding from management of work/life balancing.
    - Start off new employees and junior employees with good base salary and great benefits as they are a part of Kantar/Lightspeed (WPP) who can leverage their size with insurance companies.
    - They continue to update and invest in their technology, as well as decentralize their knowledge base from people/documents to a digital library allowing for a better flow of information.

    Cons

    - On the flip side, management still holds onto ideas that languish or are shown no demand for in the market place which can hamper the ability to innovate further.
    - Top management seems to be involved in every little decision, and seems to stifle turnaround on key initiatives.
    - Talent acquisition there can be hit or miss, as in the past most did not come from even a marketing background so the support necessarily wasn't there; it is getting better though as programs bolster MR related courses.
    - Salaries can get stalled after awhile with paltry raises while bonuses have dropped off after merging with Kantar/Lightspeed
    - They still constantly lose top talent in every department (sales, acct management, IT, etc.) due to their lack of compensation over time as well as lack of professional development and opportunities to advance; it's not uncommon for most younger employees to leave after 3-5 years as they plateau when management does not proactively try to employ some sort of development plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Stop holding onto new products/services that show no demand in the market
    - Keep investing in your technology
    - Start investing more in your people (especially those who run the largest accounts and have been around for awhile)
    - Allow for more autonomy among project staff & those working on initiatives within the company
    - Proactively reach out to top talent and those who show promise with the company to develop them further and instill a sense of future success while also showing that their role will change/morph over time to their benefit

    Pros

Nice people. Good office location in Bellevue. A few of the VPs were incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely interested in mentoring up and coming employees.

    Cons

The good VPs were heavily outnumbered by the bad ones. Everyone was resigned to the fact that the investors had zero intention of growing the company. Only interest was getting EBITDA positive at any cost in order to sell the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was paralyzed from preventing years of knowlege walk out the door due to a freeze on raises, constant layoffs, and the poor people left behind had to pick up all the slack.

I have been working at Global Market Insite

    Pros

    Flex time
most people arrive at 9 am and after 4 pm it is hard to find anybody so work hours are great
they just turned profitable after 10 years
new management attracted execs from great companies and are bringing discipline and strategy

    Cons

Online Market research is a "dog" little innovation demanded by the buyers
previous management lost too much time & resources on doing crazy acquisitions
    legacy systems
hands-on top management demand to be involved on every small decision

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Good luck

    Pros

    Fast paced
    Growth opportunity
    Good place to learn
    Hard working people
Regaining it's footing after a bit of a meltdown a few years back

    Cons

Management too slow to focus on core offering
Lost talented people, share and revenue bc of that
Now more of a niche player, but that can be a good thig

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay focused on executing against core offering
    Learn from past mistakes
Recognize that every company in this space needs to have their quality initiative and GMI is no exception

I have been working at Global Market Insite

    Pros

Management is focused and continues to work on improving the right areas of the company. There is no longer a new idea every week and a new boss every 3 to 6 months. People who were not contributing to the company's success were let go so those left are all working on the same areas of improvement. The systems and software platform are stable now so projects are almost never delayed becuase of system problems.

    Cons

Many of the new managers do not know the market research industry very well so they are learning it fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you have been doing over the past year and also try to build something innovative instead of simply improving features and ideas from the past.

I worked at Global Market Insite

    Pros

    relatively small company, growing fast

    Cons

Hired many young employees with education from the most subpar universities in the state to be able to give lower salaries.

management promises but cannot deliver. horrible infrastructure, grew too wide too fast. product and service support didn't work right so more time spent fighting fires than being productive or proactive.
Some of this probably has been fixed as they spun off their acquisitions over the past few years and refocused.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the restructuring was needed. good choice.

I worked at Global Market Insite

    Pros

most colleagues are supportive and share information. interesting work with a variety of interesting customers

    Cons

some of the support personnel are immature and uninterested in market research, more interested in getting a paycheck. this is a shame because others are quite knowledgeable. working in virtual teams is great if there are no weak links; if there are the projects get bogged down or others have to compensate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

do more to match important accounts to the right support staff. expect/demand more from technical support. "she doesn't get paid enough to care" isn't very helpful if an account is suffering as a result. demand that people stop texting during customer calls! manage by reason rather than emotion. fully vet new systems before foisting them on the people who will use them. lots of time and money would be saved as a result.

I worked at Global Market Insite

    Pros

Great people to work with around the world
Great services and products provided to Marketing Research agencies
    Good training provided upon arrival
    Regular meetings and feedback

    Cons

Working with a network of colleagues around the world is sometimes difficult when you are not able to meet and discuss projects face to face
Some of the night production team members not up to date on all the projects handled by the day team members

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

An annual meeting with all Account Managers was great, however it would also be very useful for the whole team to meet the production teams in Bulgaria as they are the main contacts on all projects. Actually getting to meet the people you work with helps a lot with developing strong working relationships.
