    Pros

I have been at Global Partners for over a month now. This is a great company to work for. The company is continuing to grow at a fast pace, and it's a great time to get your foot in the door. The office space is outstanding (recently nominated for the Best New Workplace Award by CoreNET), and it seems like people really enjoy working here. The atmosphere is very energetic and upbeat. I would highly recommend working at Global Partners.

    Cons

The building is right off of rt. 128 in Waltham and traffic can get pretty bad. Not a problem for those who live close by though.

    Pros

Fast-paced, decent benefits, charitable culture, approachable CEO. Benefits and pay were comparable.

    Cons

Inability to make important decisions in a timely manner, generally afraid of change, very clique-y. Not much diversity going on here.

    Advice to Management

Expand your perspective and apply some best practices from different industries when relevant. This will help improve and accelerate your decision-making processes.

    Pros

The job is ever changing and one day is different from the next. There is flexibility because you write your own schedule.

    Cons

Lacks life/work balance. You are on call 24/7 if you are in a 24 hr location. Employees make minimum wage so hiring talented, trustworthy, energetic employees is difficult.

    Pros

Growth oriented company. Very good bonus system and they have a very highly competitive compensation package and benefits system. Easy access to location and ample parking

    Cons

Leadership lacking at HQ and they rarely get involved with sub office issues which allows some Mangers to act unprofessional. Immense stress. Very limited possibility for employee to grow with company. A culture of micro-managing. No recognition of in-house talent. Limited training.

    Advice to Management

The hands-off approach is not working. Take more time to understand existing staff and recognize their abilities. Develop an in-house training system that allows employees to grow with the company in their job with regards to promotions. Stop allowing middle managers to operate like dictators. Try and arrange for useful feedback from staff.

    Pros

The benefits used to be affordable, but went up during enrollment last year. That was about the only good thing about the company.

    Cons

Well, let me be clear on the fact that this is not a good company to work for like the "Current Employees" below stated. Notice they don't name their position? Anyhow, let's just say the work/life balance here is horrible, micromanaging happens everyday and even though they have a so called bonus program, they pay you late.......like 9 months late, if at all because upper management does what they can to not have to pay it to you. Life is too short and your family time is more important than working here....I just wish I had left sooner than I did!!

    Advice to Management

It's not worth wasting my time making recommendations to people that don't care about other people's ideas.

    Pros

Salaries and benefits were good. Nice new working space, clean and IKEA-like, good working technology in conference rooms. Not micromanaged and allowed room to suggest changes (but see below for follow up..). Flexibility for working hours since there really wasn't a good way to keep track of time, mostly honor system.

    Cons

Not a visible layer of executives, and not a lot of support from above when changes were initiated. Lack of backing from higher-ups leads to projects falling apart, confusion and ineffective management. People were promoted based on seniority, instead of skills. Lots of long term employees very hesitant to change. They worked harder, not smarter, much of the time by using ineffective procedures, red tape and an overall sense of mistrust when changes were suggested. A lot of people hired by "knowing someone", which leads to lack of confidence in management. Commute on 128 stinks.

    Advice to Management

Come down a few pegs to interact with the rest of the employee population, be more transparent in business decisions and try to bridge the gap with the variety of employee functions. Support company-wide changes and back up people who are vested in making successful leaps to a better company.

You should seriously look into an opportunity to work for the company!

    Cons

I do wish flex hours were an option or even if we could work a 40 hour week in 4 days, especially in the summer!
