Good learning experience about global trade

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsMultinational team, exposure to different work cultures, an opportunity to understand the issues surrounding global trade and manufacturing. With offices in many geographic locations, there are also plenty of opportunities to travel, particularly to its China Sourcing Fairs.

ConsThe matrix organisation structure requires different stakeholders to collaborate on projects and this sometimes slows down the decision-making process as the project team needs to seek buy-in from most of the stakeholders.

Advice to Senior ManagementWith more nimble competitors like Alibaba in the market place, the company needs to reinvent itself quickly to stay relevant.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Shenzhen, Guangdong (China)

    ProsInternational, well known, industry standard

ConsToo corporate. Decisions take forever to make and then execute upon. Pay is low. Chinese way of doing business/running the company. No perks.

You'd love your friends more than the company

Manager (Former Employee) Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

ProsLove my colleagues and team, very multi-cultural

ConsHate the politics, business is dying slowly, takes too long to make changes.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think everyone's too afraid to take charge and make decisions. Great ideas sometimes, but you have to take risks to reap benefits.

Opportunities Only If You Put in the Time

    Manager (Current Employee)

Pros- Fast-track career development if you're smart and work hard (otherwise, you could be stuck doing the same thing for years)
    - Close mentoring by supervisors and constant performance feedback
    - Opportunity to work projects that develop new skills

Cons- Tend to pay under-market for staff
    - Expectation to work long hours and over-time
    - Tendency for groups to form by culture

Advice to Senior ManagementYour people are your greatest asset -- pay them to thank/keep/motivate them! Also, more senior managers should speak/understand Mandarin Chinese, since the majority of team members are local staff.
