Great experience, good salary and amazing people to work with!

    International Programming Researcher (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsI could do my own schedule, the research was fun and exciting, because it always led me to shows and concepts that I didn't even know they existed. People were always very nice and ready to solve any problem I had.

ConsMy only con (if it is a con) is that I was based in NYC to do the research - obviously the purpose of the position - and I couldn't have any interaction in person with my bosses or colleagues, which could enrich my performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate new research online tools to make the virtual interaction more immediate and effective.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Challenge as an engineer, waste of time with politics

    Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

    ProsChallenging problems to solve.
Good technical level of the team.
Build things that millions of people will use.
    Great work environment.
    Budget for international conferences

ConsTo many politics and waste of time.
You do a lot of stuff that will never be used.
The traffic to get to the office.
Bonus based on an evaluation with no clear definitions.
The TV branch company has to much power inside the web company.
    Salaries bellow the average.
Budget for international conferences always getting smaller.

    Good place to work

    Coordinator (Current Employee)

ProsA grate place to be in touch with high skilled people, new technologies and different developing languages.
Everything is in high scale, demand and audience, so you got to be prepared to face challenges that you wont find only searching on Google.

ConsHuman Resources and Administration could be more supportive. The felling is they just do the minimum effort to help.
They don't pay overtime, and it isn't measured officially for proper compensation.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou got to focus in people as human beings not only as workforce.
Investment in integration programs every 2 or 3 years, won't solve people's problems if nothing that is discussed changes

    Ok

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNice people, great oportunity to learn, people actually see what you're doing, the most competent people you'll work with, a place where you can actually work and make new friends.

ConsPolitics, as we're part of the greatest media company in south america, politics are a big part of your life and if you don't like burocracy and need more independence, globo.com is not your place

What you see isn't how it's

    Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

Pros- Working with some of the best Brazilian Software Engineers and Designers
    - Good Open Source Culture
    - Good benefits
    - Good company to have on curriculum
    - Working with some of the products with the largest audience in Brazil

    Cons- A lot bad managers
    - Very competitive environment
    - If aren't friends with the right people, you will not grow at Globo.com. No matter if you are a good professional
    - Low salary to live in Rio de Janeiro
    - You can be fired any time over there, if you have a problem with any manager. I worked at Globo.com almost 3 years and I saw a lot great professionals being sent away by stupid managers

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to learn to keep their top talents.

What you see is not what you get.

    Designer (Current Employee)
    Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

ProsThe huge product's audience, visibility, great professionals, benefits (health insurance, dental care), structure (money). Good references to know, lots of reading and study opportunities. It's still a good name to have on your resume. If you're going there, take your time to learn.

ConsMore talks than results, many managers, so much bureaucracy, salaries are not fair and so hard to change. If you're a creative person, you won't have space to do your best and even if you do, you may not have the credits. You'll get bored doing the same things over and over. Nobody cares about people and they probably won't listen to you. If you don't like politics don't go there.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop thinking that Globo is the only good option. Listen to your employees, don't treat them as replaceable stuff and be simple. You'll continue to lose great talents if you don't start to change.

    Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

ProsIt has amazing developers and people willing to teach you anything.

Unless you're a manager or something like this.
