Pros

The benefits package offered to US employees was well above average for a company its size. I had a huge window office. At the time, there was a lot of technical freedom to implement and change things as I saw fit. I did learn some interesting technical stuff such as software localization. They were very flexible when I wanted to move from office to office.

Cons

When GoIndustry and DoveBid merged, the management team was completely incompetent regarding the technology aspects of the merger. DoveBid had a decent but not amazing homegrown technology platform before the merger, and GoIndustry had a bunch of stuff that was practically duct-taped together from previous acquisitions. The management team (CIO included) genuinely thought it was a a realistic goal to migrate all the systems to NetSuite in about 6 months time, while the business aspects of the merger were happening as well. In my professional estimate it would take more like 1-2 years to succesfully complete such a project.

Advice to Senior Management

Hi guys, you run an Internet-based auction company. The software that brings in the money didn't come from Staples or Costco. Put a little more thought into it.
