I worked at GoldMax (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked mostly alone and a lot of downtime

    Cons

Expected to buy at the lowest price and a lot of haggling, even when customer was walking out the door, got berated if you didn't get a sale.

I worked at GoldMax (More than a year)

    Pros

Money, employer, and employees, it was truly a great experience

    Cons

They are now closed, it would have been great if they had stayed in business a while longer. I liked it there.

I worked at GoldMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to work without constant direct supervision. You have the opportunity to build relationships with the public & they constantly provide training!! Either on a new service or just for a refresher! The only company where you actually see the owners of the company every day working towards the same goal you are! Its pretty nice. Most often you hear about the owners, but never meet them!

    Cons

Lonely working inside the store by yourself. Minimal paid vacation days compared to what other companies have provided.

    Advice to Management

    Add more paid sick/vacation days.

    I worked at GoldMax full-time

    Pros

Watch TV/Surf the internet all day. Staff is Friendly, Managers work with you one-on-one, Remote Management Team. Great if you like sales.

    Cons

Lonely in a store by yourself for 8 hr/day. Staff treated differently at 3 levels including store level and headquarters. Owners can be rude to staff. If your not at headquarters or make high sales, you're expendable. What goes up must come down... gold prices were eventually going to plummet.

    Advice to Management

Treat others with respect and dignity. I believe they are no longer open.

  6. If tricking financially desperate people to sell gold for a pitiful sum of money sounds like a good job, then . . .

I have been working at GoldMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working independently in a empty store all day getting paid to watch TV and surf the web. Meeting some genuinely nice customers and striking up conversation

    Cons

Being trained to trick people to sell their gold or silver for as cheap as possible by schmoozing them up. If we couldn't buy the gold for less than 40% of the value we would get yelled at by district managers. The new trick was to mix all the jewelry together and call it costume jewelry so that we could buy all the real gold and silver with the fake jewelry for less than pennies on the dollar. The company began cutting employees hours drastically and laying off many employees in troves, with not more than a moments notice.

    Advice to Management

Quit being so cheap and pay a fair price or go out of business already.

I have been working at GoldMax part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, great hours, great management. Fun people. Very flexible and treat employees fairly. Sundays off and Holidays off.

    Cons

Gets lonely and boring sometimes if its a slow day as you are the only one working and managing a store. You dont get much of a raise but the pay is good to begin with so you have to keep that in mind. This job does not hold much of a security if you are in need of a job as the market determines the business however the pay, hours and flexibility is great for part time work and extra pay.

I have been working at GoldMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of time to catch up on movies and TV shows. They give you the freedom to manage your own store with pretty minimal supervision.

    Cons

Our base price that we lead with is a bit unfair. Better structure in the company would've allowed us to offer a price that is a bit more fair.

    Advice to Management

Better planning and structure would've helped in sustaining a profit even when the market is declining.

I worked at GoldMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only thing I can say about working at GoldMax is that I was the highest paid person to sit around the last year and watch Netflix!

    Cons

There were so so many cons, working 6 days a week, being promised things that never came to fruition. The pay raises were a joke, bonuses were based on factors you couldn't control. Upper management was out of touch and I am positive that the vice president that was brought in was brought in to close the California market. In one year we went from 55 stores to none. My store was closed after I had surgery, actually the day I got back from the surgery, they called and they had the audacity to tell me that it was due to the fact that the building we were in had leased the space to someone else and we had to be out by the end of the month. All the lies that were told was just the worst! What started out as a promising career when I started ended with such sadness. Those of us that worked so hard for GoldMax were treated with such disrespect that in the end that we all lost respect for them. Lies, lies and more lies!

    Advice to Management

There is none now because they have closed all their stores!

    Pros

A lot of downtime in the store to do whatever you want, working independently, pay not bad

    Cons

hours never guaranteed, driving far distances, no commission

    Advice to Management

This place will probably be gone within the next year so good luck.

    Pros

People, Culture, environment, bosses - Jordan Sadoff, not Scott Garber as noted on this

    Cons

Gold is a fad, so are other things the entrepreneurs get into

    Advice to Management

    More communication!
