Prosits a great brand name for a resume and a good stepping stone to other things in finance. The work is challenging and fast paced

ConsPeople have a very passive aggressive style as opposed to being upfront, there's a lot of nepotism or people hired for social reasons which makes advancement a challenge

Advice to Senior Managementthere are ways to be the best and also have a life, there should be more of an emphasis on work life balance

    Good place to work

    Associate (Current Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsBenefits, health ins. is second to none in the private sector. Work/life balance good. People are talented and generally intelligent. Pay is pretty good for Salt Lake, bonus can be good depends on how the company does as a whole.

ConsMandatory 50 hour work week, over 40 hours=no overtime. Discretionary bonus calculated by a nebulus formula that NOBODY (not even top management) can really explain. Some may complain about the "low" pay but come on people this is Salt Lake, if you want big $ don't choose ops, go to New York and work in IBD, you'll have lots of money...oh yeah you'll also most likely still be single or divorced and your kids will resent you for giving your life to GS.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey generally are looking out for you and your career advancement, mobility is good, and opportunity plentiful as more divisions move to Salt Lake.

    Vice President Technology (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsA very challeging work environment. Excellent pay. A much "touted" 360 degree review system.

ConsThere seem to be invisible ingredients in your performance assesment beyond the input from the review system.

Did I say, the work environment is challenging?
