    Technology Infrastructure is BAD

Vice President - Technology (Former Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsAccess to employee's Private Wealth Management account and Goldman Research. Company does some interesting things for employees.

Young people ! A lot of young people hungry for success but ... (see below).

ConsPolitics is bad, everybody can have opinion about everything and block progress without any particular knowledge about the subject. There is a lot of schmoozers who hve spent years at the company are not getting fired because of the years spent.

Insecurity and incompetence at TI is at a very high level, other divisions are much better but TI does not have P/L valuation and has really diverged from the mainstream business (though this is true for most of the IT's in financials).

Young people are hired but not given challenges and opportunities. They really hve to become schmoozers to get any recognition and spend 10 years to see growth (if they are not schmoozers). If you are a schmoozer, you can make VP in 5-6 years.

Company is also known for hiding its titles, they tell you there are only Associates, Vice Presidents and Managing Directors. Well, it turns out to become MD you have to go through 4 promotions from Vice President and each one takes two years (exceptions are possible but rare).

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-organize TI, it is horrible. And provide more transparency into titles.

    They look after their employees

Operations (Current Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsHigher than average salaries and also better bonuses
They do more for employees than any place I've ever worked

ConsMany groups have very long hours
No matter how good a company is, you can never escape the politics

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen managers are already working too many hours, don't give them more work by cutting back their head count. The inevitable conclusion of that policy is that people who you value and need will leave. Remember, Goldman looks great on people's resumes and your best people will be sought out. Don't make it as easy for them to take that great offer!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Okay but not great for technologists

Analyst Developer (Current Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsPeople are smart, team-oriented, and hardworking generally. You will never be bored. Great benefit package. Decent developer community.

ConsLow compensation, long hours. Some of the systems are using very old / obsolete technologies, but it seems like there is an effort to improve this. Perks aren't what they used to be or what you will find at a tech company.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease compensation or lower work hours in technology to improve retention rate for top talent.

good place to start your career but gets political when you stay longer

Technical Analyst (Current Employee) Jersey City, NJ

Pros- People are very helpful towards junior people. You will get a lot of help once you ask.
    - Smart people to work with and consensus is a big part of the culture.
    - Has very strong tech community in the firm although it's a financial company

Cons- political. your manager will probably spend more time to manage upwards rather than looking after you.
    - 360 reviews are really depended on ur manager

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to what comes out from the people survey

    Eroding culture

Senior Technology Analyst (Former Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsThere are still some of the brightest people in the industry there and a great environment to learn from the best.

ConsPeople of integrity are on the decline and self-serving individuals are on the rise. Team work is almost non existent and morale is extremely low.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at your middle management and make sure they can manage the people that report to them and not just themselves moving up the chain.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
