    Pros

Amazing, super smart people and incredible pay... I'd say it is an amazing place to work coming straight out of University, because it really establishes your CV.

    Cons

The stress, the ridiculous face time culture, the backstabbing and the police state style form of management - sounds obvious now, but not the most fun place to work!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what it is that you are doing. The model at GS is incredibly successful for good reason - thanks to their brand name, they are able to churn out the best and brightest and having them slug it out to get to the top. They take a 100 kids who have never failed at anything and tell them that only 10% will succeed. Which, if you think about, is what cold blooded capitalism is all about really!

Current Employee - Senior Technology Analyst in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A few very, very smart people in Tech who fight their corner which is good
Some really good home grown stacks and a very good Technology Infrastructure dept
People are friendly, want to learn and improve

    Cons

Can get very stale in terms of opportunities to learn new technologies
The business rule the roost so often have to compromise on quality or roll out "tactical" solutions resulting in loads of tech debt.
Ingrained culture of long hours, 10 hour day is seen as bare minimum

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the business to understand the cost of technical dept and properly adopt Agile Methodologies across technology
Hire more people laterally, experience outside of GS makes a big difference

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay. Looks good on your resume. Up to date with technical trends. Focus on technology. You get to work with some very competent people and learn a lot.

    Cons

It's a toxic culture. It's like swimming with the sharks. You sink or swim. It doesn't matter if you're good or bad at what you do. You have to literally be a shark to survive in that world. People will step on your face and crush you to impress the next middle manager up the line. OK, they pay really well if you climb up the ladder, but you have to be willing to sell your soul to the devil.
