    Goodwill a profit organization

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Great Lakes, IL

ProsVery few other than meeting some wonderful co workers

ConsCompany does not follow their mission statement. Goodwill Great Lakes the worse. Unless you are ex military or you have a disability that they can display with pats on their backs you are first to go.

Advice to Senior ManagementGovernment needs to take a closer look at Goodwill, especially upper management, unfair practices and definetly they are not non profit.

    Organized Company

    Stock Specialist (Former Employee)
    Portage, IN

ProsVery green company. They salvage everything to get recycled for money. Many opportunities to move up. Discounts vary between regions. It's nice to get an eye on things first before customers get to them. However, you cannot touch anything until you are off the clock before or after your shift.

ConsI wish the company came together as one instead of being split into regions.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink of Millennials and remodel all stores.

    Just a Job

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

    Pros- Day goes by quickly
    - Different and interesting inventory daily
    - Various tasks depending on the needs for the day
    - Great co-workers

Cons- Constantly understaffed. Extremely stressful and physically demanding job.
    - Very rude customers
    - Management is more concerned with getting bonuses and promotions than developing their own staff and recognizing existing talent
    - Upper management putting policies and practices into place that make no sense for our operations and make daily tasks much harder

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    I wouldn't recommend this job.

    Retail Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Round Lake Beach, IL

ProsGreat place to get your foot in the door with retail.

ConsSafety is an issue as donations are sorted within the building and can carry some nasty surprises such as syringes, full cat litter boxes, mice, and other unwanted things.

it's a fairly easy but also mundane job

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Arlington Heights, IL

Prosit has an overall good environment. the people you work with and deal with are generally pretty nice. it's very simple and easy work and the pay isn't too bad either.

Conswhile the work is very easy this also means that it becomes very repetitive and boring after a while. i learned almost all positions in my short time there and was left wanting to do more only to find out there wasn't much left!

Advice to Senior Managementmake sure to give employees plenty to do and rotate positions so they aren't stuck doing the same thing every day.

    Great co-workers and managers

    Cashier (Former Employee)
    Arlington Heights, IL

ProsFun and interesting place to work. Felt good to work for a company that promotes recycling and has a mission to help disadvantaged people find jobs. Customers were friendly and had lots of repeat customers that you get to know.

ConsHad to stay later than scheduled shift quite often to ckean up. Customers left merchandise for you to pick up everywhere.

    Great starting job for teenager.

    Donation Attendant (Former Employee)
    Batavia, IL

ProsRelatively decent pay for no necessary experience, see lots of interesting things, decent amount of freedom at work, customers are usually friendly, and you are doing something valuable for people.

ConsManagement was rough to deal with at times (ultimately why I left), and the few customers that are bad are really bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo easy on the younger employees who are actually working hard for you. Just because we are young doesn't mean you can push us around so much. Also, if you are a manager at a new store, don't tell long term employees that they don't know what they are doing. Each store has a different rate of business.
