I have been working at Goodwill

    Pros

The company fosters a culture of advancement and recognizing it's people. The impact the company has on people is truly amazing; community programs and Workforce Connection Centers.

    Cons

This is not necessarily a bad thing, but working in the Retail side of the company is a whole new experience. The business is very different from mainstream retailers. You have to be able to manage the retail store and donation center.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to foster a culture of recognition and advancement.

Former Employee - Sales Associate/Cashier in Joliet, IL

I worked at Goodwill part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Gain knowledge on how to be a cashier .

    Cons

It was a zoo. Children would beat eat other with the loose toys and the parents would become upset when any employee would ask them to stop. Management was equivalent to the Nazi party. Employees would be yelled at for laughing or talking while working, it really created a hostile environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

laughing and creating a positive environment will make people want to buy more things. if the customer feels uncomfortable then so will their wallet,

Current Employee - Donation Attendant in Arlington Heights, IL

I have been working at Goodwill part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Not gonna lie, but the bosses are mostly amazing, the head manager does keep her temper. It maybe okay as a High School student's first job but other than that, it is an "okay" job.

    Cons

Hours are very flexible, other parts of management are not really the most fair. They can schedule you for full time for the entire year and still call you part time. Often during the other three seasons other than summer that you will get scheduled the morning shift due to its high student to adults ratios.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a level enforcement of the law, if you curve it then curve it so that all of the management will approve of the same technique.

I have been working at Goodwill full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Very few other than meeting some wonderful co workers

    Cons

Company does not follow their mission statement. Goodwill Great Lakes the worse. Unless you are ex military or you have a disability that they can display with pats on their backs you are first to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Government needs to take a closer look at Goodwill, especially upper management, unfair practices and definetly they are not non profit.
