    Pros

The people are awesome; really smart, witty, and fun to be around. Makes working late more enjoyable.

    Cons

A lot of the work is delegated down, which is to be expected.

    Advice to Management

    Keep conscious of associate morale.

  2. Very fun environment considering it's a law firm.

    Pros

In a great area of Boston that allows great experience for a recent graduate considering law school.

    Cons

The hours can be long and strenuous at times, but many know if this when applying for the job.

    Advice to Management

    None so far

    Pros

This is as good as "Big Law" gets! Engaging work, complex legal problems, top-notch lawyers, fantastic formal training programs, great mentors, lots of constructive feedback on work product, and a great group of lawyers who socialize on a regular basis. Great place to work, sharpen skills and have fun.

    Cons

Big law hours, up-or-out system (like all Big Law)

    Pros

Compensation is very good, and your colleagues are the best and brightest. There will be lots of early responsibility; leanly staffed teams

    Cons

The associates are overworked (but paid well for it) and always stretched too thin. There are many completely unavailable partners and office-versus-office polit ics are ugly. There is horrible transparency from management

  7. Good but not great

    Pros

Good pay, challenging work, smart and driven colleagues.

    Cons

Lack of transparency on pay, can be a bit bureaucratic at times.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to ensure a more even distribution of work among associates.

    Pros

Very employee friendly. You work with smart people. They make a difference with their pro-bono work. Top tier firm.

    Cons

As they are a law firm, the wheels of change do not move very swiftly. Decisions can take a bit of time to get made. They are very prudent with their spending - which is both a positive and a negative.

    Advice to Management

Spend more on staff bonuses. The current structure does not incentivize staff in the least. Simplify the review process and give a section for the managers to provide a "what else you need to know about this year" discourse.

    Pros

    Cons

The stress is typical for a large law firm.

    Pros

Laid back atmosphere. Smart, enjoyable people to work with. As good as "Big Law" gets. As a new corporate law attorney, I had a lot of opportunities to explore different areas and learn what I liked and didn't like. It gave me a broader understanding of law and business.

    Cons

Nothing different from any Big Law firm. Long hours, work weekends and holidays as needed (which is often). Big Law is like a constant sprint on a marathon course. Wasn't for me in the long run, but Goodwin was a great firm to be at while I dabbled in Big Law.

    Advice to Management

It's been a few years since I was at Goodwin, but I remember wishing I had more opportunities to learn the business of the business. We're good at working for clients, but the firm didn't do much to teach us how to manage a law firm book of business.

    Pros

Great variety of work, excellent work, challenging transactions, variety of styles to learn from and training is superb.

    Cons

There will not be much work life balance and favorites are chosen early but be aware of this early that you are playing in the big leagues. Always will have work but it is political.
