    Pros

Good pay, good people, work life balance. Not too many complaints I can think of.

    Cons

Akron isn't the best place in the world. Not many complaints with Goodyear though

I have been working at Goodyear

    Pros

The compensation is a as much as you will ever receive for a factory position. The benefits and insurance is ok.

    Cons

Pay scale makes you wait 3 years until you go to top rate. No raises at all for three years. Grandfathered employees make more than new hires will ever make for the same job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication between are managers is lacking. Very cut throat environment.

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is good, the benefits are acceptable, the onsite amenities for HQ are very good. Some managers are great to work for.

    Cons

Bureaucratic mess for management chain. Too many managers, too much hierarchy, too many people need to be involved in decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Slim down the hierarchy.

    A tale of two companies

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are above average. There are many opportunities and careers in which to seek, and the company is large.

    Cons

The above opportunities are there if one is willing to deftly navigate very political waters. The company says that it is trying to be a fresher, more modern company but still has an ego and an old-school mentality. There is a large schism between what the company says in terms of valuing the employee and work-life balance and what the realities are in terms of how individuals are treated and rewarded. The two are not the same and there is a contradiction almost to a point of hypocrisy as to what is "said" and what is "done"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Really listen. Stand up for the employee when they need the support. Upper-middle management, don't make management afraid to speak up for themselves or the individual contributors who report to them.

I have been working at Goodyear as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

You will never be under trained. There are tons of opportunities to earn certifications, take classes, and learn new skills. The headquarters is beautiful with tons of amenities (gym, amazing cafeteria, clinic, starbucks, a mini kitchen on each floor). This was the best place to be starting out my career because I am able to learn so much from the classes and the people around me. Also, this is an exciting time for Goodyear because they are steadily growing, so I feel like that can only bring with it more opportunities.

    Cons

It is a massive corporation... so if you are planning on climbing the corporate ladder, be prepared for a long climb. Its easy to get lost in a company this large.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that there is a legitimate need for an intern before you hire one... there is nothing worse than having people sit around twiddling their thumbs, for both the employee and the employer.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are positive learning experiences to be had at Goodyear. People are generally friendly and willing to help, especially at the plants.

    Cons

Office politics are hard to avoid. Lots of good leaders leaving because of the caustic culture. Sometimes decisions made are only those that look good, but are not necessarily good for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to reduce the politics of the company. Work to flatten the structure of the company.

    Pros

Senior managers are only concerned about protecting their bonus, so all decisions are made at very low levels.

    Cons

Everyone under senior management are treated like second class citizen.

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company provides job stability and a lot of options for lateral or vertical movement, if you're willing to wait. There are many different fields that Goodyear operates in and many work options within each.

    Cons

Overall company culture is male-dominant and traditional because of the nature of the business. Goodyear is an industrial company and the majority of people that are with the company have been in the tire industry for the majority of their career. The company is a very large ship and it changes direction slowly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Having worked with local Goodyear stores on the ground level as well as the corporate office, it's clear that there's a disconnect between the two. Having an advisory team comprised of individuals that work on the center/customer level day-to-day could provide valuable insights to upper-level management who make number based decisions. It's hard to get a full perspective of impact decisions if you don't operate in the field.
