I worked at Google as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Google Switzerland offers a spectacular program for interns--it has great people and a stellar atmosphere/culture, with all those promised perks that just make it better. It has great food, intern events, building themes and game rooms and music rooms, etc. Interns don't feel excluded from the normal Google operations, which makes the intern feel pretty much on par with some of the full-timers. At Zürich, you still get a start-uppy smaller company feel, except you always know that it's still linked to the HQ in Mountain View, so it doesn't feel like you're out of the loop, either. There are major teams with very Interesting projects in this office as well. Lastly, Zürich is probably the best office for any intern available, due to the high ratio of interns to full timers, and the super great diversity that the office brings in, being in the center of Europe. There are people of 70+ nationalities in this office, and it's an eye-opener and definitely not short of amazing.

    Cons

It takes time to catch up to speed as a short-term intern. Sometimes you feel a little shy to speak up, especially if it's your first internship like it was for me. The company itself sometimes seems a little too lax in culture, promoting some lazy days. The "Google Fifteen" is also very possible, since there is free food for three meals on weekdays, though this is obviously a perk too. Also, you get the feeling that there is not too much advancement available for those who want to make it big, so for a full-time ladder-climbing job, Google is probably not the company!

I have been working at Google full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Working with some of the smartest people in the world on products used by millions.
    2. Great diversity of products you can potentially work on.
    3. Offices around the world, so you don't have to be in Silicon Valley.
    4. Very humane culture. E.g., you're encouraged not to work late and not to do email on weekends. Generous perks are another aspect of this.

    Cons

    1. Male/female ratio (although this is an industry-wide issue, and Google is working hard to address it).
    2. Design and product quality still not consistently high enough. However, they're very conscious of it and it's improving quickly.

I have been working at Google full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Perks are great and salaries are competitive.
You get to work with very talented people and learn a lot. It rarely gets boring.
Working hours are very flexible. Its still a engineering driven company, so great place for engineers.

    Cons

Long working hours are a norm, work/life balance is not encouraged.
Career growth at higher levels is hard if you are not in US. The performance review process is very complicated and almost a game that you need to learn to play. Its not just about what you did, and how important it was, but there are 20 other dimensions by which the work is evaluated which no one understands in the end. They claim its fair, but compared to other companies I have seen its not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the red tape at check as the company is growing.
Simplify the performance review process and reward the right people, not just those who do shiny work.

I believe Google has an incredible culture, great mission and values, fantastic treatment of employees, very optimistic outlook of the business overall
