ProsExciting, challenging and generally a great work environment. Really have a chance to make a difference! Work with state of the art technologies and hardware.

ConsSometimes work gets a bit stressful, but one is rarely forced to work long days. Its a very dynamic environment, as is the technology industry so you may need to switch gears frequently.

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing, I'm verry happy.

Former Employee – worked at Google as an intern for less than a year

ProsVery smart and helpful colleagues.
A plethora of cool technologies
A large amount of trust in the employees, even interns have access to a lot of confidential material.

ConsSteep learning curve for the technologies used.
Many projects still use C++, which lacks good tool support.
Once in a while there is a reorg of projects, which is annoying to be held up by.
Differences in interview practice from office to office.

Current Employee – been working at Google full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat insight into the high-quality software development process.
First class experience in the design of the reliable and robust cloud services.
Smart and creative coworkers.

ConsPoor career growth opportunities: 1) too few steps in the career ladder; 2) convoluted promotion process.
As the company is instantly growing, problems in the inter team communication become more visible.
Technologies used inside Google in the wide majority of cases are not available externally.

Current Employee – been working at Google full-time for more than a year

ProsImmensely diverse and talented workforce, fantastic perks and working conditions. It feels like the most global company in the world. As an employee of Google you feel that you're in the center of the biggest innovations happening right now, and if you're are self-motivated and diligent you will be able to accomplish a lot in this company.

ConsAs the company gets larger and larger there's lot of red tape to deal with, and more levels of management are placed up the ladder.

Current Employee – been working at Google full-time for more than 7 years

ProsFood - they keep us well fed with only the best and healthiest
People - this is by far the biggest asset of the company. The high hiring bar maintains the high standards, and despite a people crunch they'd rather not hire at all, than lower the bar.
Ethics - the company is awesome at doing the right thing.

ConsCompetitive - what you get when you hire A-types.
Career path not always available due to staffing/headcount/growth/project location

Current Employee – been working at Google

ProsSmart people. Some interesting projects. Casual working environment in contrast to other Zurich companies. Nice office. Good pay, more than the other Google offices.

ConsToo many males. Not enough ethnicity. Some uninteresting projects. Unlike the banks, this company is not Swiss. Most corporate power is in U.S.A. offices.
