I have been working at Gordmans

    Pros

If you are part time the schedule can be flexible. If there are openings it is pretty easy to get and interview and a job.

    Cons

No one on any level of the company is on the same page. Everyone at a store level is underpaid! There is no consistency and a lot of bad attitudes. Payroll is scarce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more clear about what is going on within the store and company as a whole. There is a lot of miscommunication.

I have been working at Gordmans full-time

    Pros

Discount is good, as their prices are low.

    Cons

Changes are good, if you know what to expect. The company has hired so many new people at the Corp. HQ that they want to make so many changes so fast that it has created termoil all the way to the store level. There is a saying: too many chiefs not enough indians. This company should have learned from their past!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not enough training time, but know that your hands are tied.

    Pros

As a manager, you're expected to do little for 50k. 4 days a week

    Cons

The health care is rediculous lot bad. No premium increases In 6 years means no additional and highly detracted benefits. Prepare for 2k deductibles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Gordmans part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the associates are nice and friendly

    Cons

Management is a joke, they play favorites and don't care how long you have worked there or how hard you try to learn all aspects of the business. There is no way for someone to be promoted in the company unless you kiss management's butt. Most in management spend most of their time talking about the other employees to everyone who will listen. Schedule was never posted before Thursday when the work week starts on Sunday because the manager posting was to lazy to put it in dayforce Tuesday night. Very unprofessional in all aspects of the management team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Clean house and start over.

I worked at Gordmans full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Constantly doing something and always staying busy so the work day moves quickly. Great job to stay in shape and keep active.

Great if you enjoy working with the public.

    Cons

Work-life ratio is terrible. I was told once that I couldn't take more than a week off for a long over due vacation. I worked 6 months at one time without getting a full weekend off.

The company makes promises they don't keep. Instead of promoting within, they hire Store Managers and District Managers who haven't worked a day in an actual store.

They promote and hire with the intention to train and then never follow through... But they expect you to know what and how to do it anyway.

District Managers don't even know the names of the Assistant Managers in the stores.

Pay is not worth what they put you through.

They tell their associates that the employee survey is confidential and it is not. It will get back to the SM.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work in the store for a month doing the same job as EVERY part time associate.

I worked at Gordmans part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

most co workers were pleasant, most of management was nice, not a tense atmosphere

    Cons

some management was difficult to work with, doesn't allow back-stock so you're forced to spend hours just trying to get merchandise out, your job title isn't what you will be doing, you will be doing a little bit of everything, promotions don't go to those who deserve it, don't work hard and think you'll get that "lead" position - they will just hire someone else for it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to those co workers who, although aren't the loudest, work the hardest and fastest. Don't get uptight about certain merchandise presentations if it isn't violating corporates layout

I have been working at Gordmans part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

employee discount, manager and assistant manager are good people

    Cons

some supervisors on a real power kick, dont feel the corp cares much for their employees due to cut off hours leaving people with loss of income during slow periods, i feel the company penny pinches giving people a lunch and only one 15 min break if putting in 7.5 hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think there stuck between a rock and a hard place. Caring people stuck between the employees and a corporate headquarters who doesnt care about employees. Good Luck
