Current Employee – been working at Gordon Food Service full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Private family owned company which means no greedy stockholders to answer to. Great profit sharing/401K program. Excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, employee discounts, etc. Christian company. Financial rewards for performance.
Cons – Cornerstone values and culture lost at the divisional level. Middle management are a bunch of "yes men" that don't support the people that report to them. Long hours, week nights and Sunday work. More concerned about expense management and head count than sales building. Individual departments are more concerned with personal success than the success of the entire team. Most of the strong leaders have left the company and have been replaced by puppets.
Advice to Senior Management – Replace "yes men" middle management with strong leaders. better align departmental goals so entire team can have success.

Pros – GFS is a great company to work for. They actually listen to their employees which is something I have never experienced in retail. You can earn a lot of bonuses and gift cards through sales competitions through out the year. It's not just for management, it's for the entire store. It's great incentive to work harder and be rewarded for your efforts.
Cons – The pay is not that great but that's retail for you. It would be nice to get more raises more often, but every 6 months isn't that terrible.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Cons – I don't have anything bad to say.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the great work.

Current Employee – been working at Gordon Food Service full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good insurance, vacation time, and outstanding co-workers.
Cons – Staff is overworked and raises are far and in between. GFS continues to put more load on employees yet refuses to add staff. They continue to tell employees to look for ways to save money even though staff has done everything they can. Used to be very family values based however now it seems to be nothing more then a sign on the wall. Staff has to purposely let things fall apart in order to get the CIO's attention. GFS has a bonus program however the objective that are set around making the bonus are unrealistic and not achievable.
Advice to Senior Management – Instead of taking employee surveys and acting like you truly care start to really listen to your employees. We are going to start to lose good people because you are burning people out. The Gordon's need to be more in touch with all their people and not just the CIO. If you can't staff for the workload then slow down. The staff has nothing more to give.

Former Employee – worked at Gordon Food Service part-time for more than a year
Pros – Great first job for high school or college students. Management was trained well and I had flexibility with scheduling my hours.
Cons – None for my position, I was only part time. If you're not a manager you are either a stocker or a cashier. There isn't a lot of promotion potential in the Marketplace division unless you would like to get to manager someday.

Current Employee – been working at Gordon Food Service part-time for less than a year
Pros – Great co-workers, management is fun and engaging and easy to work with/talk to, flexibility, easy. There are many in-store positions such as cashier, dry stocker, cooler, freezer and management positions. After working there for awhile, you learn how to master each task proficiently.
Cons – hours can drop off at non-peak times.
Advice to Senior Management – become more involved in associates tasks and activities and have more meetings and communication between all employees.
