I have been working at Graham Construction & Management, Inc full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee owned, excellent overall benefits and working conditions. Culture of taking care of the family. Pay and ownership structure combine to make it a great place develop a career.

    Cons

Rapid growth and change has made for some bumps in the road. For the size of the company, there are some surprising areas that the company is behind in. The company seems to be about continual improvement and the employee problem areas fall back to the employee owners, who are working to overcome.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just remember the past, it was a great company, still is, and focus on the core strengths that made the company what it is will result in another 80 years.

I worked at Graham Construction & Management, Inc full-time

    Pros

Worked with a great team of co-workers, The new CEO seems to be trying to put together a plan to change direction which is innovative and creative for the construction industry. HR has launched some new leadership material which looks quite good and hopefully can improve poor leaders and managers.

    Cons

Many senior leaders have been there a long time and not progressive or eager to listen to employees. Many of the senior people are all part of the same family so if you are family, great but if not, you will be unlikely to progress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve performance management for employees. Improve corporate communication.

I have been working at Graham Construction & Management, Inc full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Employee owned, employee accountable... strong leadership and committment to success.

    Cons

Changes are inevitable in a growing company, and Graham is no exception. If you are willing to accept change and be a part of the solution rather than focus on what might be seen as problems, you are part of the company with the same vision as its leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication can always improve, but the leaders are true leaders.

I have been working at Graham Construction & Management, Inc full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very creative and challenging environment; looks like it is recovering well from a difficult period; introducing new training and HR programs that look promising; the employees truly own the business - there is no control group and no special deals for senior management, so it is the real deal if you commit to it

    Cons

There is a traditional group that is resistant to change. Some segments take an old-style approach to fixed price work, but there have been some changes to the senior leadership team over the past year that is bring a fresh perspective that looks like it will result in positive change. In the past, the Accounting, HR and IT groups were looked at like pure overhead and the morale in these groups was terrible. But there is a new CFO and new senior HR guy who are making big changes quickly, so it could be very different in a year or two.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on changing and improving - your employees are your shareholders and they want you to succeed

I have been working at Graham Construction & Management, Inc as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great history. Solid foundation and the staff really care. Grant Beck making good decisions after the disastrous three years with Bill Flaig as President.

    Cons

Many old, long time Graham managers are completely out of touch and useless but due to share holdings won't leave. People who are perfect for small jobs don't even understand the new types of projects Graham is chasing. Old boys club needs to have the guillotines fall.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start promoting high potentials NOW. Old, ineffective, incompetent managers need to be replaced. The demographic shift will hammer Graham unless action is taken yesterday.

I have been working at Graham Construction & Management, Inc full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Graham is an employee owned company that is moving forward after a restructuring. New leadership training and educational programs are being rolled out for employees. This is a very exciting time for the company, with new key leadership roles being filled by talented, experienced. individuals.

    Cons

Not a good place for those that don't like change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nice to see Graham moving forward and listening to the employees' feedback.

I worked at Graham Construction & Management, Inc full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pay and vacation was okay despite never receiving any pay stubs

    Cons

    Where do I start....
In over 25 years of IT experience this has to be the worst company I have ever worked for
First of all...the company is facing 20% cutbacks mostly because they are losing money. Their employee units have consistantly dropping in value for at least five years.

It is an employee owned company so it tends to have very socialist old boys club mentality. Nepatism is very much alive here
TMost of the newer IT team members occupy the basement which is damp with no windows. Occasionally the sewer backs up so in the morning you will be greeted by the smell of open sewage....
Very poor training to new IT employees on processes
Absolutely no formal training of any kind and little support by management if you are struggling...its swim or sink
No feedback of any kind and no three month review as expected
Legacy staff are fixtures at Graham and quite often will try to run SAP initiatives with no knowledge of SAP capability. The legacy system has to go but they dont accept SAP can do the same thing and better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to implement a formal training program to educate their people.....
There are way too many middle managers at Graham and not enough people that actually do things. For example the PMO position is totally useless and has no value. The standing joke is that everyone has at least four managers to answer to
