Former Employee – worked at Grand Targhee Resort full-time for more than 3 years

Pros – You must love skiing and the remote outdoors if you plan to work here. The skiing and outdoor recrecational opportunites are absolutely great. Great things to say about the skiing, the area, and the recreational choices abound.

Cons – The owner does not properly operate this resort like a business. This would be fine if he had the financial resources to do this but he does not as evidenced by the stress put on the managment teams to cut costs. The culture should be awesome (it's a ski resort) but the culture here has developed to be a bunch of people who complain about everything. It is a real shame because the resort has so much potential and should be a fun place to work.

Advice to Senior Management – Unfortunatly the best move may be to sell the resort to someone with the funds to put in the much needed capital improvements.

Pros – Ski privileges, wonderful area to live with a tight knit community if you have a steady job.

Cons – Lack of dept funding causes stressed out management.
Human resources does not follow good business practices.
Absence of work/life balance.
Owner is unavailable and does not provide a positive and reassuring role model for staff.
Staff feels like they're "working for the man."

Advice to Senior Management – Sell the resort so that the new owners can fund it correctly and employees can be treated fairly and compensated well for their efforts. This will also create a new and positive vibe for the disgruntled community who survives off the growth and stability of this resort and of tourism in general.
