I have worked for GVSU for over 8 years. There have been a few bumps along the way but overall, it is an enjoyable place

Department Coordinator (Current Employee) Allendale, MI

ProsGood people in individual departments. Management is generally reasonable.

ConsSome of the policies seem to be from when the school was a small college. Some ideas seem out of date

Advice to Senior ManagementUpdate some policies, hire more people inHRO

Frustrating place to work, no willingness to change or improve

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOnce you're in you can be there for life, without hassle. Faculty easily tenured and promoted, with little accountability or expectations for improvement

ConsNo new blood, people stay forever and work beyond their effectiveness/competency; decisions are made by personalities, not by evidence, best practice or bench-marking with 'like' institutions. Graduate programs/students not recognized or promoted, GVSU grew out of the 'liberal arts college' model decades ago but no one wants to acknowledge this or give up this older image of GVSU so we are stuck in the past, not changing for the future

Advice to Senior ManagementChange the mission/values of the university to reflect its size and scope... we are the 8th largest Master's comprehensive-large classified institution in the USA but we still act like a small college. Time to change leadership, policies, and practices and aim higher than just state boundaries.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
