Pros
Grange invests in employees. Opportunities to showcase your talent and advance vary based on your department and manager. I am pleased with my position and my direct manager, but that is not the case for many at Grange. The company is solid and stability is a pro. Also, you are given the tools and resources needed to do your job. Ammenities like free parking, on-site fitness center and cafeteria add to the general benefits package.
Cons
After the recent reduction in force, maybe managers will be more consistent in this manner and hopefully ineffective managers were weeded out.
Advice to Senior Management
I have seen many changes in management since the new CEO has come in early 2010. Communication is more intentional and inclusive. Those "below" management level aren't treated outright like lowly individuals. Ideas from all are being solicited and there is more accountability.
Pros
Excellent work life balance.
No one works past 4:30.
Everyone is really nice.
Beautiful new building with terrific workout facilities.
Management is very flexible when it comes to time-off and unexpected circumstances.
Cons
Very resistant to change.
Candor isn't really embraced.
No one works past 4:30.
Technical staff's talent is below industry par, and it's kind of an open secret.
Pros
The pay is fairly competitive
Cons
The opposite of the open door policy. Very bureaucratic with incompetent people making decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure decision makers get a clue
Pros
Grange was a good place to work. They are a family friendly company, their benefits are probably better than a lot of companies out there. The regional management staff is usually pretty fair & always recognize employees who excel.
Cons
One of the worst parts about working at Grange was that there were cases where the regional manager would disappear for extended periods of time, leaving the office unsupported in a time of need. The behavior of known problem employees were never address, but ignored. A lot of strict measurements were put in place that made Grange feel more like Progressive than the family friendly company that we all came to work for. Lastly, if you work in a Grange field office and are not willing to move to the home office in Columbus, OH, there is very little room for advancement.

Advice to Senior Management
Please replace Phil with someone who is just as out going and down to earth. It is very refreshing to have someone so open and obviously excited about running a company.
Pros
The people and Policy Holders are great! Good benefits and retirement plan. Nice vacation (3 weeks starting out!).
Cons
Smaller Company / less user - friendly computer programs
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees and take to heart what they say about needing better software and programs in order to help perform their job more effectively and efficiently.
