I have been working at Granite full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A wholly owned affiliate of General Electric which proved to be a company you would want to work in. They also have flexible working arrangements where you can truly enjoy work-life balance.

    Cons

It could use more benefits for the employees and contractual empoyees though.

I have been working at Granite full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Granite Services is a 100% GE owned Affiliate Company that supports the installation, maintenance, and repairs of GE industrial equipment. Granite offers a wide variety of opportunities that range from construction to project management, and field service to administrative positions supporting anywhere from 6 to 10 other divisions of GE industrial equipment. There are plenty of opportunities for self-starters with a positive attitude. I am fortunate and very happy to be working for a world class organization like Granite Services International, Inc.

    Cons

No company does everything perfect and GSI is no different. Way more pros than cons and that makes it worth working

I have been working at Granite as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The travel and pay are awesome. The work is fascinating and the people are like family. The money for a young guy is insane. Its coming out of my ears. That is, when they actually give me work.

    Cons

Its hot on the floor. Sometimes its almost a mile from the parking lot to the tech area. I get treated like a terrorist when I walk in everyday. I asked to be sent somewhere warm and got sent to Illinois in November.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the techs don't get the amount of work they deserve.

I have been working at Granite full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Excellent atmosphere, competitive pay and clear career path.

    Cons

Large organization must move a lot. Could be hard on the family life early on. Work around the clock growing too fast needs more structure. Undermanned in some areas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Convey job descriptions to mid level managers more often.
    Accelerate development of external clients

    I worked at Granite

    Pros

Compensation is slightly above market, great benefits, exposure to some very interesting work matter. Service managers will go to bat for you and represent their labor force very well. Very safety-oriented and provides internal education for site safety and safety improvement.

    Cons

While you're a Granite employee, you're a contractor to General Electric and must suffer the whims of their bureaucracy. You get all of the great stress from working on GE schedules and GE subject matter but are often left out of perks such as gatherings, achievement tchotchkes, or other types of recognition. Little to no advancement options as a contractor. Some GE people will not treat you fairly or give your work equal weighting compared to inside work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold clients to their contracts and responsibilities at all levels of management.

I have been working at Granite

    Pros

The pay scale seems to be very good for a ground floor position. The scheduled hours allow us to take three or four days per week off, which works out well for my personal situation. The people that I work with seem to be of above average intelligence and everyone gets along well. We work in a team environment, for long hours and that is important.

    Cons

The hours are difficult to work in a row, 4 days of 12 hours. Sometimes being a contractor at a GE facility means you get the short end of the stick when it comes to fair treatment by GE, but Granite does a good job of trying to make that up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that advancement is shown as a viable option, that Granite is a place to have a career, not just a job.
