    Pros

GT had a structured system for providing feedback to employees and development opportunities.

    Cons

There was very little opportunity for 360 degree feedback within the organization, and the group structure seemed to constantly evolve and change with partnership changes.

Current Employee - Marketing and BD in Manchester, England (UK)

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I suppose it depends on where you come from, I was wowed by the sleek operations and modern offices. Plenty of friendly faces and good social scene. If you are a fee earner, I believe the bonuses are ok and the staff functions can be pretty wild. Last one I went to was Alton Towers, including a few hours in the park and a stay in the hotel. My team management were very flexible with hours to accommodate personal circumstances.

    Cons

A I was in Marketing and BD (not a fee earner) I was not entitled to bonuses. Which sucks when you hear others whining about only getting £1000!! First in the firing line when things are bad, when things are good very little recognition from the firm as a whole. Was promised pay rises that never came. Very much felt like I was beneath all fee earners and should be grateful to have a job in the credit crunch. Training and opportunities for progression were very limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When promoting people to managerial positions give them training in how to be a good manager!! My final manager was awful at people management and rubbed lots of people up the wrong way - wording of emails often made me look inadequate in front of directors and partners

    Pros

Relatively decent training but you have to be.proactive. ok benefits package at the start. Induction when start reasonable.

    Cons

No recognition for.pay reviews for support staff unless in very top bracket which seems impossible to get rated as. Cliquey colleagues not.open and honest environment. Poor working environment no air.con for weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take suport staff more seriously and colleague welfare.

Current Employee - Graduate in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Training is top notch. People are willing to help you and are generally quite charismatic... Quite flexible about working from home. Some people are really admirable in the firm (others are not at all).

    Cons

Politics and not much time for your personal life. Incredibly repetitive work. If not working in their main service lines (Audit/Tax), don't even bother applying. Budget is very tight. Clients are often hugely overcharged. Employees are very slow at their jobs. Perks aren't that good. You cannot get a bonus until you reach manager level. They are breeding a culture of "if there's not that much work on, don't leave early to compensate the 12 hours you worked yesterday (which is expected of you), instead find something else you can work for 12 hours on". You get the "eyes" if you dare leave before 5.30 and people question your drive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At the top level, management seems to be okay. It's the senior management/director level which are not helping you. Offices outside London seem to be a lot less stretched, and have a much better life. Try to spread that about the firm and have more networking events.

I worked at Grant Thornton UK LLP full-time

    Pros

If you're an accountant you're well looked after with great jollies and offsites
Free fruit every morning in London
Flexible working - work in any other office around the UK and the IT is well set up for it
Organised for new starters - laptop and Blackberry were there on day 1

    Cons

PA and secretarial staff are often looked down upon by senior (very often male) colleagues and their career progression isnt viewed the same

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat staff more equally
