I worked at Great American Insurance Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Professional work environment - Reputable business name to work for - Decent pay

    Cons

    - Upper management expects too much out of each individual employee (You have to do the work of 2 or 3 people to earn that decent salary) - I was mislead about my job description while being on boarded - Weak training

    Advice to Management

    - Value the hard work your employees bring to the table instead of constantly wanting more and not appreciating the efforts being put forth - Hire more interns and entry level employees so your managers can focus more on the skilled level work you hired them to do and not have to also take on the responsibility of entry level work - Be honest and upfront regarding what you expect from the beginning, communicate regularly and effectively - Provide modern and effective training

I worked at Great American Insurance Company (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Profitable Company with Good Benefits

    Cons

Mismanaged at the highest and regional level. Popularity contest determines success or failure with higher managers. Must polish the apple constantly for approval.

    Advice to Management

Value the employees that work the hardest and have been successful for +10 years.. Let the manager that manages them directly decide their fate.

I worked at Great American Insurance Company (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Large company with a good name in the Cincinnati area. Brick-and-mortar company, so it's fairly stable. There are some great people to work with and great customers.

    Cons

Working conditions are very poor in the IT department. If I could have rated this company lower, I would have. Management is out of touch with their employees and, aside from under staffing their teams and overworking and under appreciating their people, management seems to get a kick out of bullying their own employees and blaming them for their own shortcomings. The only way to survive, if you call it that, is to brown-nose the right managers and cliques to avoid being thrown under the bus. It is really worse than high school. Direction is inconsistent and contradictory and it's quite obvious that most managers were hired because of who they knew, not what they knew. I would advise anyone applying here to explore other options, far, far away from this company.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue and quit hiding behind your network connections. Own up to not knowing everything and listen to your employees. Many of them have been at the company for decades, for a reason.

I worked at Great American Insurance Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This company had very good working conditions and reasonable expectations for performance. Good performance was rewarded, and the home office backed up and supported the field staff.

    Cons

Salary compression was the same as i had encountered with previous employers, and there were occasional conflicts with tother departments. Human Relations department was on a course of their own. Due to the small size of the department ( 30 employees countrywide ) advancement opportunities were limited.

I worked at Great American Insurance Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Decent pay, ability to travel

    Cons

Overworked, underappreciated, unprofessional management. Manager was immature and would talk about employees behind their backs. He would also read employee's personal e-mails and discuss with others. Environment was stressful and there were definite cliques in the office involving several managers and employees. It felt like I was back in high school at times.

    Advice to Management

Act professional. Treat employees as employees, not best buddies. Don't gossip about your employees.
