    Pros

Traditional company with very solid human values. Management is very friendly and open to innovation. Employees are highly valued. Lots of career development opportunities are provided to continue education or get trained in both technology and business side (insurance). Financially stable company with chances to rotate to different areas to acquire new knowledge. Constant performance reviews which result in raises and promotions year by year.
Upper management is open to implement employee ideas discussed through internal social networking.

    Cons

The normal problems pertaining to a huge enterprise like low visibility, less agile when dealing with enterprise-wide impacting changes. Starting salaries not that great. No work from home policy in place. Micromanagement seen in some teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue embracing changes and adapting to the modern world but always keeping your employees as the most valuable asset.

Corrupt Middle Management Not Noticed By Christian Owners

    Pros

Don't have to do much to get paid. Slackers are rewarded.

    Cons

Middle and top management below the owners and their direct reports are corrupt. They violate the rules they make everyone else follow and look to pad their own pockets off of the profits earned by those below them. Notice that ONLY the Interns think this is a great company. Over the past 5 years, with the change in human resources management the company consistently lets go of top knowledge and top performers...who are over the age of 45.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house, starting with top human resources leadership. Those at the top of human resources are incompetent. That's why you pay so much for consultants and nothing changes. Read the reviews - the benefits are not even comparable to what other companies offer. So much money is spent for consultants to do Total Rewards work. Top human resources leadership doesn't respect anyone, including the rest of the C-Suite and the owners themselves. Other executives are called names and their lack of political savvy is commented on in front of staff level employees regularly. They describe themselves as the puppet masters; guess who the puppets are? The owners are too good of a family, have done too much good for Cincinnati and have too good of a company to let these corrupt human resources leaders tarnish their good name and strong business.

    Pros

Good pay ($15.50/hour as an intern), good work life balance, accounting training, accounting information systems training.

    Cons

The department is not unified and doesn't really get along. You go in, do your work and then leave, no personal connections. Supervisors are difficult to work for and communicate with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more of your time on personal connections with all employees, spend more time on training and developing employees rather than just getting work done.

    Pros

Benefits. Work-life balance. Office culture is great. Planning and execution.

    Cons

Salary. Perhaps this reflects more on my negotiating skills rather than the over all salary structure. Management is open for discussion and is very approachable though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Well managed.

    Pros

GAIC adopted a position of innovation and flexibility based around realizing a profit and protecting the company from adverse results. There was a great deal of innovation expected from all positions.

    Cons

Probably the most difficult aspect of my experience were on limited products available in the marketplace and an antiquated automation system.

    Pros

The company is very financially stable and has been in the city of Cincinnati for decades. The company maintains diversity in business lines and is always looking for new opportunities to grow. Also, the building downtown is very nice to work in if you want the corporate culture.

    Cons

I have worked in the IT annuities group for over 10 years and it continues to erode and is picking up steam. Any innovation or change is met with extreme resistance from the IT management and the business areas. The mantra is do more with less and don't challenge status quo. We continue to try and hire people with illusions of being able to make a difference when really we want to make a series of clones, who point the finger and look to fire people rather than change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You watch your financials for cyclical patterns, check out your management team for repeated patterns. 2014 was supposed to be different, instead its the worst I've ever seen.
