I have been working at Great Clips

    Pros

Paid holidays, vacation time, health benefits, training, quality connections, fast paced, paying for tools (salon innovations) in chunks, good tips depending on location.

    Cons

High turnover rate, management not trained, will hire anybody, hourly pay sucks, no room for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All in all it's a great company, but they don't pay well enough to pay my bills.

I worked at Great Clips part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The franchise owner I worked for offered 50 cents extra per hour if I worked until close in the evening and on weekends and all day for working on Sunday, all the other franchisers don't offer that. This particular franchise over also paid 10% commission on product sales. Franchise owner I am talking about is Cuatro Clippers.

    Cons

When I left the organization the owners and managers were forcing the stylists to push product sales on every customer. It was to the point where a customer would sit down in the cutting chair and as I would begin to say how are you, the customer would say, "I have no intentions of buying any product today". It was embarrassing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should watch the store managers closer to make sure they are following the rules as the other employees are expected to.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You made an hourly wage and the customers were provided for you. Tips were all yours too.

    Cons

Haircuts had to be at least 13 to 15 min even though the guideline was 14 to 17 min. You were damned if you did and damned if you don't. Had to always watch payroll but if you sent someone home early and then got a rush you would get in trouble. Main problem was a GM who didn't know what they were doing . They did not set the example that they themselfs expected of you. Unrealistic expectations. Favored certain employees over others. They rewarded you for product sales but not great customer returns. Very mixed up in what was important for the buisness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your stylist and if you are a GM listen to your managers because they are the ones who are at the salon every day. They have valuable advice and opinions. Don't always assume you are right just because you have a bigger title.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

None that are available. I have a very strong work ethic and this was by far THE WORST work experience of my working years! I will never recommend anyone to work here or get their hair cut at GreatClips especially in Corvallis.

    Cons

No hairstylist can give a professional looking haircut to anyone in less than 12 minutes. It is about listening to the clients needs and going beyond their expectations. it is not about chopping them up, and sending them out the door so you can make more money. It's about meeting peoples needs and Great Clips has no clue how to do that!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to listen to people, be teachable in learning management skills, and place a priority on people instead of money. For when you put your heart and passion into something and into people that you care about, the money will naturally follow.

    I worked at Great Clips

    Pros

Most days you stay pretty busy, you mainly do hair cuts not much blow drying and styling.

    Cons

there is always a feeling of being rushed, because there is an expect average time you are expected to haircuts done in, and for some one new that can cause a bad haircut
